 Stupid question: Someone gave me an iPod touch 8GB and this is my first ever Apple product. If I jailbreak it, can I still use my head unit in my car? Also aside from getting the Cydia store, what advantages are there to jailbreaking? I understand for an iPhone but how about an iPod?

Yes. Or sometimes for a nominal fee they will replace the whole thing. My brother got his iPod replaced with a newer unit with 4 times as much storage for $50.
