Simkin posted:That's an awfully steep price for something that even if properly restored, won't ever be a terribly cool/valuable car. All the weather stripping will be cracked/crumbling/nonexistant, and even if the drivetrain is in serviceable order, you will have trouble overtaking the Amish on rural roads. I beg to differ. Since being terribly 'cool' means different things to different people, and I would argue that Datsun is incredibly cool. Then again, I drive a 74 AMC Hornet so what do I know about cool

I love AMCs. kimbo305 posted:A little expensive given the rarity of parts and the likely need to maintain it if you're not planning on driving it into the ground. I saw a pretty nice Fiero GT for $2000, but I didn't want to spend that much to maintain it, which I thought I would have had to. Perhaps, but that engine bay looks a hell of a lot like my 74 Hornet I had. Lucky for A MIRACLE and I, the 258 (also in my Hornet) was in a lot of AMC's cars and in almost all of their Jeeps. Since I never replaced any body parts or trim pieces it was quite easy to maintain the car for daily driving for 3 years. A glance at AutoZone.com shows lots of parts available. Granted it isn't a GM or Honda or anything, but I was never pained trying to find parts. I also miss it terribly.

http://tampa.craigslist.org/hil/cto/5432070494.html It looks like a seventh generation Daihatsu Hijet which is def not a Nissan of any kind, not even badge engineered. Because of this I don't trust that it's actually an automatic either. It also is weird because it is very obviously left hand drive and I am having a hell of a time finding any Hijet that is left hand drive that isn't one of those little pickups limited to 25 mph, badge engineered or otherwise. I'll call them tomorrow though for sure, and it's about an hour away from me but man I am so down with tiny vans. The HS-7 has all the ways that you can bring a car into the country and the CBP officer has to confirm your answer through documentation or inspection, for a 25 year old car you'd have documentation of the date of manufacture. Yeah this, to get the car into the United states means you'd have to smuggle it in and even after 25 years it was still smuggled and subject to crushing. I am on Florida and have thought about smuggling one it but the risks are too great. I might use the storage service or see if I can have some friends in Japan rent me a garage or something a few months before it's build date comes up.

Technically it can be, practically smog will knock you out.

MrYenko posted:Kei Van chat: The FAA academy complex in Oklahoma City has a slew of those things for on-campus transportation. I really don't understand the infatuation with them, they're terrible, terrible little abominations. Emotionally I think I like them so much for two reasons. One, a kei van is about as far away from ~typical cool~ from new vehicles today. Everything is larger, more complicated and more ostentatious than before. An impossibly tiny van is a combination of a small car (uncool) plus a van (uncool) and that throws it real far away from what you are supposed to want, especially if you are a young guy and some other young guy sees you but he's peacocking in his giant lifted pickup. I kind of relish that confusion. Two, I guess I'm vain as all hell because you will get attention from just about everyone and I like that. Everyone notices, looks, reacts and some ask questions. If you want attention I can't really point out something that would get more.
