I'll give your megamix a listen, Tokit, and take some notes too.

edit: I went through and took notes but for some reason the downloaded track is much longer than the embedded track I listened to. Is it closer to 30 or 50 minutes long? I'll listen to it again later, but right now I don't want to go through the entire thing again.

Just a minor note for inspiration: You might want to transition into "Groove is in the Heart" at the very end, I think it'd fit well.

Alex H's Bastard Set is unlike pretty much everything else posted here, mainly because it uses almost no rap samples or Top 40 hits (with a couple of awesome exceptions). However, I've never heard another mashup artist pull off playing the melodies of four songs on top of each other and creating something completely original that sounds like it was produced in a studio. Really recommend his stuff for a change from the Girl Talk-style.

The best stuff is in the second half.

Alex H is great in general. Make sure to check out the rest of his site, too.

Sample list for All Day has just been released. If you've got some free time, it'd be awesome if the timestamped wiki sample list could be completed!

I know that it is nice and all to have a big epic ending, but what I would like to see one of these guys do is end the cd exactly how it starts. This way I can just loop it at parties and people will not know what the gently caress. I'd like to see how many rotations it could do.

Please.

Feed The Animals does pretty much exactly that.

It was really only a matter of time - 'original research' is both the most stupid and the most basic type of information Wikipedia people like to remove from articles. It was incredibly lucky that it lasted that long.

I was considering starting up something like http://samplespotting.wikia.com to host collaborative IDing, but I haven't found the time yet to start it and move the stuff over.

I don't really like this Milkman guy. Album seems to be really same-y, using a lot of samples just to use samples, without really letting any stand out. I'm only halfway through Algorithms, though, so it has a chance of winning me over.

e: whoever mentioned that he relies on a lot of the same samples as Girl Talk is extremely right.

e2: haha, and a completely failed attempt at 'rap song over kitschy background' with the Torn sample in Right Now.

So I've been a big fan of The Kleptones for ages, but I've never really seen them recommended anywhere. My favorite album of theirs is 24 Hours, but their last actual release Uptime/Downtime has certainly rivaled it.

What do you all think?

This is pretty good but I'm really really sick of the way he loudly whispers TITUS JONES at the start of every track. It's jarring. :(

Given how many times I've seen people's mashups taken, relabled, and presented as someone else's over the years, I can respect him doing that.

This is the latest and possibly one of the most ambitious mashups I've attempted to date:

http://soundcloud.com/dj-dain/am-i-going-down-forever-mashup

Led Zeppelin, Styx, Zebra, Chicago, Green Day, The Beatles, the Wu-Tang Clan and the Steve Miller Band - all of them guilty of using the same descending chord progression. The really crazy thing about this is that I'm still discovering songs that could be incorporated. For example, "Traffic" by The Psycheground Group.

As always, feedback is much appreciated.

It doesn't really feel like you didn't do any mastering to the track, man. A lot of the samples are muddled and quiet compared to the rest of the track. My other big complaint is it doesn't really have any structure or dynamics to it - you've got some great samples and a good idea for the track but without any real changes to anything it's just really boring. And it's a hell of an accomplishment to make While My Guitar Gently Weeps dull.

So I never tried to make a mashup before, and I really don't have much musical training, but for some reason I was bored today and wanted to give it a try. I must say it is much harder then I ever thought it would be, but is a really fun thing to at least attempt to do. After way to long I came together with this http://soundcloud.com/user5353068/wish-i-knew-take-2/s-7jyqJ

Now to just figure out a way to combine the three sections together.

It'd be better if he could've been able to use studio acapellas for more than 10% of the songs. The artifacting is a bit discracting.

Then again, it took a while for 2009's to grow on me but it's now pretty much my favorite thing he's done.

I really liked Earworm, was a really huge fan, but I haven't heard a really solid thing he's done since the early editions of his year-end mashups. I think the top 25 billboard list limitation is a huge huge flaw (especially nowadays where the pop scene is a lot less homogenous) and spinning his own list with ones that'd work better together (or at least ones he has the drat stems for) would be a better idea

I mean, compare this 2009 mashup to a more recent one:

What's the best place to host tracks these days, other than self-hosting? Soundcloud likes to bop half the stuff I upload, which sucks. I use Youtube primarily, but that's really not as useful as it could be.
