Here is my Kawasaki Police 1000 that has survived being a Denver Police bike, a funeral escort bike, and Metro Detroit collision with a Ford F-150. It has 39K miles on it and mechanically she's sound. She just needs some cosmetic work: After my father passed away, his 1977 CB750K worked its way through the family and ended up in my possession. It started out with badly rotted tires, terrible looking after market windshield, faded gauges, and weird looking sissy bar/luggage rack. New tires, new gauges, and ripping off the lousy rack has improved it looks. Of course it still needs a few things (including a good wash and wax). I have new side covers but I have to find a paint shop that will paint them for me. I also need to clean the carbs, because the drat thing will idle without any choke but will die when you give it any gas.

Here are some iPhone pics of my "new-to-me" 2002 Yamaha R6. Luckily a friend owns a car hauling trailer. I can't imagine trying to ride one of these in the snow/salt/ice meh... The PO threw in a set of leathers and a matching helmet. They may be a little big on me! (Naw, it's my son who is aspiring to be a biker)

As far as the tires are concerned, they may very well be the originals. Unfortunately it's in heated storage so I can't just run out to the garage and look. And yes, my son is totally awesome!

That FZ is absolutely beautiful! I rode to work again today and there were two other R6's. My twin is behind my all bagged up bike. (Testing them for a long ride) A hooligan stuntaz R6 parked a few spots over.

If you want borrow a brake pedal from your mates, you better be riding the same kind of iron. Other than that I found Sonny to a bore. HST is a lier, nowhere near as awesome as his myth, but he was a good writer who learned that writing that you are a badass will make people think you are a badass. Thanks, everyone. It is exceeding all my expectations. It was the white that really sold it for me. I have to figure out where I can put some tasteful Cobra decals. I can't wait for the engine break in period to be over. I want to goose it! They offered me an extended 5 year warranty for around $800. It seemed expensive to me considering how little could go wrong. (No ABS, traction control, etc) It does have that exhaust valve thing. Hmmm...

Thanks for the info. I'll probably get the extended warranty. It's the same price as adding Givi hard bags which I am now reconsidering. It looks so drat good as it is. The dealership tried to sell me a maintenance plan: Dealer: It is 35% cheaper than our normal maintenance prices blah blah blah Me: Really? Can I use your calculator? Dealer: Uh.. Okay Me: How much is an oil change? What about spark plug replacement? I want to check this out! If it's cheaper I'm all about this! Dealer: Um... it varies... Me: So how do you know it's 35% cheaper? Have you REALLY done the math? Dealer: You probably don't want to buy this service plan... That's exactly how the discussion ended. I've always done all my own maintenance. (1986 Kawasaki LTD, 1989 Kawasaki Police 1000, 1979 Honda CB750K, 2002 Yamaha R6) I was sort of hoping it was a good deal. I bought a new bike to spend less time wrenching and more time riding. This bike looks super easy to maintain. It has a god drat easy to use center stand! There's no lower fairings, so I won't spend 30 minutes putzing with the plastics to just get to the oil filter and drain bolt. I do hope the plugs are easier to get to then on the R6. It seemed like I had to disassemble half the bike to get to them. With that said, the first oil change will definitely be done at the dealer.

Took the plunge and bought a 2011 BMW F800 TS. I had never ridden a BMW before and I am quite impressed! It doesn’t feel as responsive as my FZ1 was but it feels even more comfortable. Now I have to wait 2+ weeks for the dealership to get the bike registered with the Swiss authorities and get the autobahn placard. It’s going to be interesting switching from American roads to the smooth and well maintained Swiss and German highways.

I’ve decided I don’t need a car and only want a biek. Please don’t talk me out of this with logic! (The truth is my new BMW F800ST will be my only vehicle but I’ve lived in Switzerland for almost two years without a car and only relying on public transport.)

I've been tooling around Germany, Switzerland, and France on my new-to-me 2011 BMW F800ST. It's not as nimble as my R6 or FZ1, but it's much more comfortable. My 10 year old son wants to be my passenger and we believe in ATGATT in our household. I picked him up a nice set of armored gloves, textile gear with CE armor, armored boots, and a Shark helmet on clearance which is honestly nicer than my helmet. They even had a little harness that I can wear that gives him something to hang on to as well.

I took a day off work so that I could ride to Bern and then Thum in Switzerland. I took the highways home and the traffic was brutal. Seeing other Swiss bikers lane split encouraged me to say, “gently caress it” and try lane splitting as well. Holy poo poo is it awesome!! Thum is pretty. I won’t post the beautiful pics of the sunbathers... Time to power up! That’s a banana case you sick weirdos. I’m still not used to motorcycle parking in Europe. I guess this will be fine? It’s on a sidewalk and there is another bike here. That’s makes it legal... RIGHT?!

Vahakyla posted:It all depends. Rule of thumb is that the more north you go, the stricter the rules get and the more your bike is treated as a car. In Italy, if I'd park my motorcycle onto a regular car parking spot, I'd either get a ticket or an angry mob and it's commonly not only allowed, but strictly encouraged to bike your bike where ever you can. Right next to the store is fine. Only tickets would be handed (and only during business hours) in front of important buildings, or ZTLs, Zona Traffico Limitato exclusion zones. Other than that, go loving ham. In France, southern France is similar, but northern france is not. Get a feel for the place you are in, or ask some local bikers! It’s just so weird here. Usually all rules are enforced with a vengeance in Switzerland but motorcycle parking seems to be a sort of “meh” :effort as long as it isn’t in the way of anything no one seems to care. There are special motorcycle and bicycle parking but people park so drat close that people are touching mirrors at best or bags are touching body panels at worst. The good news I left the bike there for a few hours without a ticket. Now I get to wait a few days to see if I tripped any speeding cameras or if I’m in trouble for all the lane splitting I did. I assume lane splitting is okay because drivers gave me lots of room.
