It was a weird "Monstrous Compendium" type book filled with mythical creatures and fantastical descriptions. If I remember correctly the poster said that he/she kind of became infatuated with the book and would stare at it all day while at his aunt's house.

The only specifics I can remember are that the best weapon in the game was the vorpal sword, and it would randomly distribute enemies/items for every new game. This has been driving me nuts for YEARS, it was actually a fun little game.
