I'd love to get a picture of him passed out in the same place now to see how much he's grown... This was his first busy day home. Thankfully he can no longer fit under that couch. (Though the barking couch was a good party trick.)

That's really cute, it sounds like a typical Corgi warning bark as I like to call it. Nacho does it all the time when he sees or hears something "suspicious."

Here's a cute video with many of the typical sounds Corgis make. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0tvwqTfES3o

Oh lord this is Ace all over. I was a tad worried at first because he's very expressive with his growls. Playtime is more like growltime. He'll grab his toys and run around the house snarling like a wild beast.. Really he just likes making the noise. Someday I need to get a video of him doing this.

Though if I ask him to lay down and he's not in the mood he'll flop down and punctuate it sharply with a "hurphf".

Constant barking while indoors is a huge issue obviously, but the occasional barking should be absolutely fine. There's pretty much always going to be some yappage going on during playtime, and esp during roughhousing which is normal imo. Ace also will let out a few huffs if there's a sudden noise in the apt he can't identify or someone at the door, which is fine. I tell him no if he keeps barking at something normal though (for a while he was big on barking whenever the sprinklers outside came on, now he'll yap maybe once ad then be quiet.)

Basically the big thing is to not encourage him if he's barking just to bark, and if he's yapping entirely too much feel free to tell him no. Usually we'll be like "alrighty that's enough calm down" and that's enough to stop the huffing. I've found he's pretty good at picking up when barking is ok and when it isn't, I've even managed to quiet Ace down while on walks where other dogs were barking their faces off at him just with a clam "it's ok quiet down." It's going to be like anything else with a dog, setting boundries for when something is and isn't ok.

Edit: Sach said it best really.

Also this is now his preferred way of playing with chews... On his back where he can barely reach it.

And now he is defeated.

Edit: also those are good views of his pulverized 45 dollar dog bed that is just a great big fluffy chew toy. All the foam that's supposed to hold the shape of it is torn to pieces under the cover, it's just a big blob now.

The handheld that I have is amazing for pet hair, it's called a carpet shark. It has an attachment on the front with brushes that spin and pick up all the hair, so look for something like that. Just suction just wastes my time. Also it's pretty cheapo.

Poor Ace is the most sad puppy in the universe right now so I don't have pictures yet because I feel guilty capturing his pain. He's fine from the surgery but put a drat e-collar on him and THE WORLD ENDS THE WORLD IS PAIN I HATE LIIIIIFFFEEEE.

Yeah, seriously. Any tuesday, wednesday, or thursday is fine with me for the most part since I have a weird rear end shift at work. This week is obviously not a great idea due to stitches mc noballs. I'm usually the one standing in the lake taking pictures of my scared rear end corgi, and Ace is usually the one avoiding all the other dogs as much as possible.

They've been holding them on the weekends so I haven't been able to go. I know a lot of people were pissed about the weekend leash laws being in effect, and really I don't see the point, but hey those were the rules before and people chose not to follow them, whatever. It's a beautiful park and very well maintained, so I don't see why the Orlando dog haters association wants to try and have it shut down/ relocated. Obviously it's very popular as I go there in the middle of the day on a Tuesday and see at least 20 dogs at any given time. Everyone does a very good job of cleaning up after their dogs, I don't even worry about stepping in dookie.

The things the city has been trying to do in the name of budget cuts is pretty insane. I dunno, even if I could go to the meetings I don't live in Winter Park anymore, so since I'm not a district voter they won't really give a gently caress. Plus, I have no faith in Florida politics anyway... Give 'em a year and they'll probably bulldoze the place and build condos.

Ace has been bombarded with chews and frozen peanut butter kongs. He's still upset I'm not letting him tear rear end around the house like usual though. He didn't touch any chews until yesterday because he'd get too upset that the cone gets in the way. He figured out that if he's holding his head up he can transport the chew toys around the house WITHOUT HAVING TO HOLD THEM HIMSELF IT'S AMAZING so there's been a lot of slow prancing about with chew toys next to his face.

Dog is weird.

Edit: For the record Ace was born tailless, as were his littermates according to the rescue I got him from. If I recall right, bob tails/ full tails are actually a sign of bad breeding in pembrokes; tails should have been bred out from them.

Ace used to hide under the couch, but that was so he could hide all his good toys and be annoying where he thought I couldn't find him. The phantom barking couch was a good trick. He'd never sleep there though, he always insists on sleeping as close to us as he can get- IE under my chair as I sit in it, next to the couch, etc. Thankfully he got too big to fit under there, so no more popping out randomly to nip ankles (or your face if you dared lay on the floor to look and find him).

Docking dog's tails honestly freaks me out and I wouldn't have a dog with a docked tail. Granted, I still lie sometimes for the sake of comedy and tell people it was an accident or whatever, but if he wasn't already born without it I'd be weird about having a tailless dog. It's funny watching that little nub go crazy every so often, it's like his butt itself is wiggling.

It was funny having my friend come over and ask "what happened" Walken style.

I disagree with using the crate for time out, because a crate should be their happy fun safe place and never a place for punishment.

I've had a lot of success controlling excessive barking by shutting down any attention/ funtime when it's too much. If Ace starts barking, my arms get crossed and he gets to see my back. If it continues, he gets escorted to an empty bedroom where he stays until he calms down. Miss Indy typed up a more detailed method earlier in this thread, I believe.

Edit: Kongs are great toys and will keep Ace busy for a while. Even longer if you stuff it with peanut butter and freeze it for a while.

Tristesse

That can send a confusing message to her. It could send her a message saying "yay when I'm annoying I get to go to the place of happy dreams and treats!" (granted, I know you're not giving her treats when she's being put in there for being yappy, but if that's what she associates with the crate...) OR she'll eventually decide that her crate is the land where all fun stops, and take a dislike to it.

It would be a much better idea to confine her somewhere else "neutral" if needed. Like I said, I tend to use a room we're not in a the time. Plus it sends a much stronger message. "When I bark a bunch, I DON'T HAVE ANY FUN OH GOD IT'S SO BORING IN HERE. Maybe I won't start barking for no reason next time!" He's not let out until he's calm and quieted down, which usually only takes a minute or two. I think the longest I had to isolate him was maybe 10 or 15 minutes, and that was a day where workers were coming in and out of the house.

Edit: Also remember, it's not effective punishment if the dog doesn't mind.

As far as clawing up things go, I've been having a problem lately keeping something soft for Ace to lie on in his crate. In accordance with his taste for all things fluffy or made of my underwear, he's been spending a decent chunk of the night eating holes/ ripping/ tearing up anything in his crate. Pillows are banned because he rips a hole in them and eats the stuffing. He also can't have stuffed toys for this same reason, which is odd because he was fine with them for months. He chews holes in blankets.

Recently, the only thing that's lasted a decent amount of time was a crate liner I got from Petco that was form fitted for his crate. Black plasticy bottom, soft white fuzz top and it was supposed to be filled with foam. Turns out the guy lied to me and it was filled with regular stuffing (just wrapped up more), but it at least lasted a good few weeks until one night the zipper was attacked and it was gutted.

My problem is, I don't want Ace eating all this stupid poo poo. Obviously it's very bad for him and could cause an obstruction. However, I also don't want to shove him in his crate every night with only the cold plastic floor to greet him. I've considered testing the waters on letting him spend his nights elsewhere but I don't trust him yet. He has no problems with not eating things in the rest of the house, he knows the couch pillows and whatnot are off limits, (Only exception being tasty dirty laundry) so it's only happening to items he feels are "his."

Anyone have any suggestions to discourage him from eating his own bedding, or suggestions for another crate liner I could use that would be mouf proof?

He looks so guilty.

Ace can get a wild hair up his butt and decide to bark for a while. It's somewhat rare and a "quiet down" usually does the trick, but if he's bored or annoyed the problem gets much worse. He's a fairly vocal dog, when he's playing he pretty much always makes some sort of noise. Watching him run around the house with a bone in his mouth growling is pretty funny. As far as "quiet dog vs. constant barking" they can certainly be classed on the constant side, though it's not impossible to train them out of it.

So far the coolaroo bed gets a lot of action and hasn't had any wear on it. He doesn't even try to chew, between the metal frame and the rough material it probably doesn't occur to him.

Otherwise, I buy a 3 pack of durable nylabones and replace them every other month or so. Also, laser pointers are a huge hit.

Swiffer duster, + handheld fur killer specific vacuum (mine is called the carpet shark or something, it's basically a dust buster with a powered spinny brush on the front which is rad), + lots of normal vacuuming. On top of that, a tape roller for spot de-fuzzing clothes as we head out the door (because Ace loves to be cuddly on you right before I leave for work) and otherwise just dealing with it.

As far as grooming goes, Ace gets a full blown groom once a month, I furminate him once every week or 2, and slicker brush him every few days which helps a lot.

I know most of you aren't in the area, but I figured that any word that gets out is better than no word.

A close friend of our breeder had 2 red/white pembroke corgi puppies stolen from the pen in their backyard this weekend. She said they were stolen between 2 and 3pm on Saturday while they were out running errands. She asked us if we could get the word out. The puppies were stolen from Kinsale, Virginia (eastern Virginia). Whomever stole them will most likely try to move them somewhere else where they can sell them, so if you're anywhere in Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, keep on the look out. If you find them, contact local authorities and the breeder. Her information is at the following site.

http://www.cloverhillfarm.com/Clover%20Hill%20Farm/PWC.htm

I believe the 2 stolen are the two in the bottom 2 pictures up at the top.

That is a huge shame, they seem like excellent breeders as well. Down here it's a huge epidemic for people to seal purebred puppies from homes. Even the petland down the street from me was robbed by someone who took some shitpoos or something. I hope they recover them.

Echoing rescue. I'm in central FL and got my puppy through the Sunshine Pembroke Welsh Corgi rescue. I actually was in contact with the Celestial Star lady to feel her out, and here's a million things wrong with the way she does things, including but not limited to her not allowing home visits (don't want your car getting stuck) and pimping out Iams as her food of choice.

Also as far as the breeder goes I must've spaced because I saw them showing and saw the hip cert results/ tests pending but it didn't occur to me "hurf they should wait until it's done to breed them first." Retracting my comment about them being good. This is also why you don't want to trust a breeder's website as it's easy to talk the good talk.
