On Megan's Missing:wikipedia posted:Criticism was directed at the acting, writing, cinematography, directing, and font choices, as well as numerous production mistakes; for example, the boom mic can be seen in several shots and director Michael Goi can be heard saying "Action!" during one scene.

I'm a substitute teacher, and you'd be surprised at the stupid names I see. Most notably: Szylveszter, Marquivion, God's Favour.

KillerQueen posted:Some family friends have named their 2 girls "Calliope" and "Fable", and while I will say I think "Calliope" is a cool name I'm betting both will eventually have them changed. I... I like Fable actually. That said, my daughter definitely has an original name. And we're considering naming a future child Thane Taco Lastname

As someone who hasnt rewatched the Evil Dead movies in a long time, I remember watching the first two and and being pissed that ED2 couldnt decide if it was a sequel or a remake (almost like the atrocious The Thing sequel remake nonsense but far less aggravating). Why do people love the second one so much? Ive been wanting to rewatch them but maybe I should skip 1 and just watch 2 as to not have that same feeling? Edit: like, how does it even male sense as a sequel? Didnt Ash seemingly not remember the first movie or am I misremembering?

flashy_mcflash posted:Well first you have to accept that sex work is real work, and the writer of the film was/is a cam performer. It's feminist in the sense that she has complete agency over her decisions (until she doesn't, and her agency is taken away completely, which is the horror aspect and main conceit of the film). There's nothing cringey about the mother helping her in her career since lots of sex workers parents are fine with their chosen profession. My main issue with it is honestly the glorification of Camgirl culture. They make it all out to be like a competitive social networking thing where the girls are all empowered and roommates/friends, when in reality they fall prey to the same abuses that all sex workers do. Its just irresponsible film making, especially considering the writer's background. Also the movie kinda sucked. The song was my favorite part.

Tuxedo Catfish posted:Nah, you just haven't seen enough Takashi Miike films. I grew up on Takashi Miike being a teen when you could order discs from Netflix. My wife has issues with sexual abuse and gore porn so a lot of Miike films are out of bounds (aside from like Happiness of the Katakuris and Bird People of China), but after my she loved the Ace Attorney movie, I convinced her to watch 13 Assassins last night, which she also loved. Thinking about it, I probably dug my own Miike hole with her by loving Ichi the Killer but never letting her watch it and explaining in detail why. His ouvre is so bizarre. He's clearly brilliant though. Or is he? Man, I dunno. I guess hes like Hideo Kojima on the crazy/genius scale.
