There is legislation in the Illinois congress right now to allow for 35% all around the windows (except windshield). If you have anything less than 35% in the rear, they will allow up to 50% for the front side glass. The bill was basically approved, but Govenor Quinn rejected it because the wording would have made certain SUVs and minivans with OEM tinted glass illegal. He sent it back for them to update the wording, and thats the last I've heard of it.

We'll be getting my wife's windows tinted to 35% once it passes. I doubt I'll do anything with mine, but my next car will get 35% as well.

Kind of stupid law, but the police in my city pull people over for it left and right, and they dont write fix it tickets, either. Its $75 a pop usually.

I would paint it, though, because a) I hate rust in any form. Rust is not patina. Rust is concentrated evil. Worn, faded paint is patina. And b) so I could show it to the PO and make his head explode.
I'm even in a pretty rust-free part of the world (Texas, USA), so any rust to me is just nope, especially after hearing all the horror stories from Yankees and Brits.

I moved down to Texas last year. My '94 Thunderbird V8 rusted out from living up north, and at the same time I was saving up to buy a fullsize Bronco, so I thought, why not both?



The paint is totally burnt out, but there's no clearcoat so it does polish up nice. However, it is road chipped to hell and back.



One thing that baffles me is the interior is spotless everywhere but in the cargo area. I think it was stored halfway in a carport or something.

I was toying with the idea of the sedan instead. However, when I test drove a craigslist one and discovered the sheer size of the wagon and how well they drove, I was hooked.

Even better, Ford didn't substantially change the frame for the aeros and later. Obviously, the wagon frame is longer at the rear, but on the sedans (and coupes) you can fit the later chassis, particularly the '04-up chassis with the better suspension and rack and pinion with surprisingly little work.Mainly the frame horns for mounting the core support and bumpers.

It's a 2WD 2001 Silverado 1500 with a 5.3L, 247,000 miles on the odometer. It was clearly a work truck, possibly from Texas but it run and drives decently. I attribute the latter to the bonus toe-in courtesy a bent tie rod. I'm going to replace everything rubber in the front end, the shocks and tie rod, add a transmission cooler and use it to tow my sailboat to the lake.
I'm not in love with the 20" Tahoe wheels, I'll probably trade them for stock 16"s as soon as I can.
