Is it just me or are used 3 hatchbacks hard? Checking out the two largest Mazda dealers in a 200 mile radius turned up zero used ones which seems crazy to compare to something like the focus hatchback of which literally dozens come through the local ford dealer every month.

Well what if you bought it but you suddenly died or maybe you got too many duis and you can drive it anymore. (dammit)

That's actually really interesting. I live in a heavy salt state and the reason I'm shopping is that my current vehicle is literally falling apart from rust, by which I mean chunks have come off while I was driving.

Any opinions on the mazda3 turbo? I was shopping mazda3s and it looked fun at first but a heavier mazda3 with AWD, lower gas mileage.. I don't know about this car. I'm imagining that there could be some debugging left and the smaller engines feel more in the spirit of what the car is trying to do.

On the latest generation 3 is there a tiedown/towing eyelet in the front to attach a front plate to? Any other good method to avoid using screws on the front grill?

Does anyone know the spec for the 3 turbo tie-downs? I'm trying to get a front plate kit but all the ones I found have the wrong thread pitch. It seems like the turbo and 2/2.5 are different.

Main issues I have with my 2021 mazda3, maybe some of these are not turbo specific:

- if you leave it unlocked it will start screaming its head off about a low battery warning even if its hooked up to a trickle charger (software bug imo)
- if you leave the keyfob in the garage or nearby it will also throw battery warnings, I camp a lot and a small campsite with keys in tent will cause it
- going through a carwash is annoying because of the auto wipers, auto-brakehold, collision detection and radar features - needs a carwash mode button
- camping at astronomy dark sites is hard because if you unlock or open a door all your cars light turn on including the headlights (I realize this is pretty specific)
- gas milage sucks big time compared to the 2.0l 2015 naturally aspirated I had. I mean.. duh, but I went from less than 1 tank of gas driving VA to MI to needing 3
- the plastic on the center console is purpose built to get scratched and look bad
- auto dimming mirrors suck compared to manual. If you have some jacked up jeep blasting you with brights during the day it won't trigger. My mirror doesn't have buttons to turn off/on the dimming but I think some do.

Everything else is perfect, just a few details they could iron out. I somewhat miss just having a dumb car where you can leave unlocked and get in and out of it without creating a bunch of noise and lights, but vroom vroom so you know.

Also the feeling of being in a confined coffin is the best part of having a mazda3 I will never change my mind about that and would prefer it to be even tighter unironically.

Yes each feature has its own method of turning it off. Hope you don't forget one...

For the autobeams they are either the best or the absolute worst depending on where I'm driving. You can press the button the end of the stalk to disable it, but you have to press it each startup.

Anyone gone to a dealer with a 2021 model 2.5T that's burning oil? Apparently its a known issue but the recommendation is just to top it off? I had a low oil light yesterday. I let it sit overnight and while 100% cold the level was perfectly in the middle of the two dots. When warmed up and then let sit for 5 minutes the level is right on the low dot. I added a half quart but thats a lot of oil to go through in 3500 miles.

Looks like I'm eligible for $3 reimbursement if I take it to the dealer... (lol)

Mazda turbo oil burning issue update: Mazda extended the VIN range to include a variety of turbo engines up to june 2022. They now have a fix for the issue. People on reddit are reporting it take about 5 days, so expect to have a loaner for a while.

Mine is losing about a 1/2 quart per 5k miles, so the next time the light comes on I guess I'll bring it in. BTW some people are saying they had a headache because they put oil in and THEN brought their car to the dealer and they didn't meet the criteria for the TSB... very funny. Guess its a not a cheap fix for them if they're using that to say things are fine.

I live in an apartment so I have been bringing my car into a local place for oil changes. I need to get a garage ASAP because they put the wrong oil in, and when I pointed it out tried to argue with me that it was fine because "both of these are fully synthetic so its the same thing". Then they tried to make it sound like my fault because I didn't warn them ahead of time. I know they're just going to wait a day, tell me they replaced the oil and then actually its still going to be the exact 0w-30 that's in there now.

So I guess my question is how bad is it going to be when that's the oil in my car instead of 5w-30.

0w-30 is for the 2.0 and 2.5 naturally aspirated, the turbo is 5w-30. Its not THAT different but I mean its written on the cap.

edit: I picked up the car and it was in the exact same spot and the low battery warning was on which means the door had been opened and closed while off 10 times. They absolutely didn't do poo poo but I can't prove it.

I hate to say it but I just gave a concierge $1500 to find all the options I wanted and haggle with the dealerships. They delivered it to me and I never had to talk to anyone. Dealers suck so bad, one tried to give the concierge a dealer plate "new" car with 2k miles and it was great just letting her deal with that. Eventually got one 3 states over and they registered it for me in my state and transferred everything it was so easy compared to the normal hassle.

I have a major bone to pick with android auto. I want to listen to youtube videos while I drive that are basically podcasts. They have a video stream, but its a bonus.

"Hey google play the latest video from whatever podcast channel"
"Sorry I can't play that because its a video"

I can play it on the normal youtube app and it will stream through my car speakers. Except if you change the volume at all it will instantly flip audio sources back to the car and just blast techno music at max volume. So the strategy is before you start driving plug in your phone, setup navigation for the road trip, load the video you want to listen to, set the volume using the techno music, then press play again on the phone (it paused the actual video you want to listen to) and then don't touch anything until the video ends.

Even more confusing is that the video I want to watch and the techno music are both through the same youtube app, just one is the android auto process which is apparently like running side-by-side with the other one, but they're the same app.

An alternative is to use the car's navigation and then plug in the phone with a power condom and then bluetooth the audio to the car, and that at least lets you change the audio, but you lose features like ducking the audio for navigation prompts, and its dumb. Just play the video. The google voice shouldn't be sassing me about the difference between a video and song, its all straight from youtube!

The Aardvark posted:

Sorry it inconveniences you but really any option to play a loving video on a car infotainment system while it is moving should not be allowed lol.

The youtube app plays videos all the time in your car through android auto. When you say "hey google play the latest album from Mastodon" it goes to youtube, searches for that video and then plays only the audio stream through the speakers. Obviously you never see the video. In the youtube app it works the same way. You can click any video, turn your phone off, and it just plays the audio and never bothers even downloading the video stream.

So if I want to listen to a podcast "video" or a music video its exactly the same thing, its just an audio stream played over USB/bluetooth with the video discarded. Except one had a music meta-tag and one doesn't apparently.

The mazda3 touches both my knees and both my elbows at all times. The wheel is like 1mm from my knees. I'm 6' and it's sooooo nice. It's like being tucked in super cozy.
