You could be the best dj in the world but if the only other person who knows that is your mom or your roommate you wont get gigs. People get them based almost entirely off networking and connections, not skill (although if you're actually good and have connections, all the better). Basically trying to say he's not just been lucky as you're trying to imply, you gotta work to get yourself out there. Also to be honest your general audience doesn't give a poo poo at all about your mixing compared to your song selection.
