If you reference me, one of the people who is considering hiring you might come up to my office at some point and talk to me about you. I'll be honest. I wasn't really expecting this the first time, and I didn't know a lot about the person mentioned, so it didn't go well and you may have lost a few points.

Need a Job:
Public Accounting, Tax/Audit
Colorado, willing to relocate ASAP

Education:
Graduated with BBA concentrated in Accountancy at the end of 2007. 3.62 GPA, worked all through college, and did additional work in the music department. Working as a waiter and a musician through college has allowed me to cultivate a personable demeanor, attention to detail, comfort in public speaking, and above all a great work ethic.

Currently taking the CPA Examination and slated to finish up on May 27th.

Work Experience:
Presently furloughed from my job as a Revenue Accountant at a ski resort. Lots of work with hotel reservation software, restaurant order software, account reconciliation, G/L work, revenue recognition, among other necessary accounting functions.

Prior to this there is 10 years of restaurant work under my belt: cook, busser, waiter, day manager. Very handy in and around high stress environments where deadlines need to be met.

Additional Information:
Started college originally as a Computer Science major, and switched my sophomore year to Accountancy. Very familiar with various computer systems and software suites. I have been doing database report writing within my current job to help streamline work in other departments.

Looking For:
Public accounting associate/staff position. I am soon to be finished with the CPA Examination which, without public experience, is not helping me achieve my licensure. Work in audit is preferable for the amount of exposure and experience with all facets of accounting that I stand to gain.

Looking for a Career

Education

Junior graduate of high school though it really means nothing, and a year and a half of community college under Business Management though the program has changed and my hours are null.

Work Experience

A Kroger food store for roughly a year, Office Depot for nearly 5 years (I was let go in January) but I did nearly every position, and now an assistant manager in training for a convienence store at a dead end job in a backwater town. (No one else was willing to even look twice at my resume. Overqualified for retail positions according to three possible employers.) As with anyone, I like computers and use them extensively.

Looking for:
In short, without wasting peoples' time, a means to establish a career in any field I can either be trained in, trade, or apprenticeship. Education is not an issue, as I'm willing to learn, though money is always a problem. My wife and I would like to move more north, though pretty much anywhere with a larger town and nicer overall demeanor would be nice. (She'd like to move to Seattle one day, though currently, that's not an option.)

As stated, I'm in a backwater town that has no hope for a future, and we're almost needing to relocate. I'd like to make more than the 18k a year that I was making at Office Depot, if at all possible.

Thank you again for any information or suggestions.

Contact can be made at archaiclight at gmail dot com.

Good luck in acquiring jobs everyone!

Edit: Backwater Town USA doesn't exist. Sorry. Texarkana, Texas. (State Line of Arkansas and Texas)

It's mostly suited for anyone who's just graduated and is interested in a carreer in sales. You would start out working for one of our clients via us while we train you and we can help you get an account management or sales job with them after 2 years or so if things go well.

Salary should be between 30,000 and 35,000 GBP if you're on target, which really is realistic. Free laptop, blackberry and all of that are provided as well. :)

It's really just a very fun company to work at and you learn a whole lot about how companies work and how to talk to very senior level executives in a professional manner. You won't actually need to sell anything and there is no pushiness or anything like that, it's just finding companies that might be interested in working with one of our clients and setting up a meeting.

I just quit my job because it paid next to minimum wage, forced me to work with a manager who offloaded all of his workload onto me out of his own incompetence/laziness, and HR's solution was to simply move me to another shittier part of the company that paid an equally low wage.

A lot of people seem to be naysaying the job market at the minute, but from the various graduate job sites i've browsed through, there are still plenty of entry level graduate positions available as long as you meet the minimum requirement of the 2(1)honors degree. Even more are available after you have a bit of experience in a particular field under your belt.

That being said, i'm tired of business and especially so of marketing and am considering the possibility of returning to university and grabbing a degree in Engineering or one of its fields.

edit: i do of course understand that people that dont quite fit into this category may be experiencing a harder time of finding work.

Right. But the market is flooded with applicants. I made it to a 2nd interview for a job in April, and it lasted 4 hours where I met 7 different people I'd be working with. They told me that they had 6 candidates who made it that far.

A friend of mine just got a job after looking for over a year. There were over a hundred qualified applicants to this entry-level job, and it pays below market average. Just because the job was listed doesn't mean there are plenty of jobs out there. The double-digit unemployment rate is another sign that you're full of poo poo.
