Trying to help a friend who does product design and artwork stuff; her company hosed around with her forever and is now in layoff mode. Does anyone know of anyone in the NYC metro area or remote-friendly that's looking for someone with about 10ish years experience in art/design stuff? Or is there some kind of Dice equivalent for creatives that I could steer her towards?

How does one get started in HR/recruiting/talent acquisition? My wife has had a few different roles since getting her degree, but on a recent volunteer job she discovered that she really enjoys recruiting and networking. Her background is mostly journalism, marketing, and communications, and every 'entry-level' recruiting job we've found requires at least 3-5 years of recruiting experience.

How does one break into this field?

Good question... At my job, our only entry-level HR jobs are targeted at recent grads.

What are the websites to use these days to find open roles? I'm unemployed for the first time in 15 years and have a decent network to tap but nearly all of them that have a current opportunity that falls within my wheelhouse have a hiringi freeze.

I just raised a few 100k for a startup focused on health-tech and analytics / ML.

I need an experienced react developer to lead a team of 3-5. The current devs are productive but inexperienced enough they could really use an experienced leader.

Fully remote position. Comp 100k/yr +100,000 penny options.

For a separate company I'm also hiring a senior staff accountant who wants to train as a controller. I need AR and AP experience and at or near CPA. My CEO wants me to push for in-person, which would be in BFE south eastern CA. If you're willing to move and have the experience I'll hire you tomorrow. Job Seeker

Product Manager or Sustainability consulting
Chicago or remote

I’m 2 yrs in as a mostly outbound PM for a carbon accounting software platform. 10 years in enterprise software pre-sales before that. My current boss is terrible so I’m hunting. I’d like to stay in the sustainability space- open to consulting, operations, project management, pre-sales engineering, whatever. I’m a fast learner and I wear a lot of hats at this current job.

I’d also be open to PM jobs but would depend on the software and company maturity (I am definitely not prepared to build a team by myself, looking more for mentorship/mid-level jobs)

Job Seeker for remote work or central Pennsylvania
Nearly 5 years in current job, raises have stagnated while my role has expanded greatly but not in the direction I want.

I have over a decade of primarily customer service experience within the healthcare and IT industry. I have constantly tried to shift as far away from front-line call center stuff towards back end technical work as possible. Examples of things I do well and would like to focus on include onboarding and training new hires, writing process guides and developing training material. Healthcare appeals, designing and running reports to improve efficiency and reduce errors. Quality control of phone calls, ELM courses. Competent user of ERM systems, Microsoft office, photo and video editing software, basic html. Utilizing web portals of all kinds. I never include them on my resume anymore because they are old and I don't seem important - but I have retail experience as well and basic familiarity with hand tools and some power tools. I like working with my hands and creating but don't know how to turn this into a career.

I'm also open to 'out-there' jobs I've never heard of if they seem cool. Niche areas of interest that are probably irrelevant, but possibly related to a dream job I don't know exists: ceramics, blacksmithing, coffee, tea, all the usual nerd stuff such as gaming, books, etc.

Got laid off with no notice about two months back, unemployment has been stonewalling me and I've run through all my meager severance pay, so things are starting to look dicey. I left IT support about six years back to get into the cannabis industry, but that industry is in heavy recession so I'd like to try getting back into IT support.

Seeking

Location: Denver, CO

Education: Took a year of college and did great, but real life intervened, so just High School Diploma.

Experience: I started in break/fix back in the mid 90s, then got into phone support/help desk roles which led to incident management roles for companies like UPS and St. Jude Medical. I have worked for managed services providers, performed deployments for large and small organizations, and provided network monitoring services. As I mentioned above, I've spent the past six years in the legal cannabis industry where I've seen rapid promotions but no commensurate pay while developing manufacturing and logistic processes and applying IT principles to the industry, such as data aggregation and analysis.

Looking for: I'm looking to mostly get back into IT support roles now. I'm willing to pay my dues again in a first level support role if it means I can work my way up in the company. I would really like any sort of remote work if possible, but if there are jobs in my area I'm happy to go to an office as well. I'm also open to further cannabis work, if the pay is right.

Willing to relocate? No, but I am experienced at working remotely.

Seeking

Location: Phoenix, AZ

Education:
BSBA - Management Major, Dual AA - Fine Art / Business Admin

Experience:
You ever meet one of those people who can do pretty much anything but just get bored doing it really quickly...if that's all they do? Hi.
I worked through college working two part time jobs, one as a security guard at a car dealership and the other as a DJ of the local 80/90s commercial radio station that wasn't giving me enough hours. I moved to Phoenix to finish college and fell in with an architectural drafting firm in Scottsdale who, at first, really needed me to backfill as a CAD drafter, but when computers started to break and I heard the owner's friend of a client's son come into the computer room and tell our boss "Nah, Servers can't get viruses" I knew I needed to step in. I became their one-person IT department for several years until economic downturn happened and work dried up.
I went on to a financial services company doing internal support as a jr. server admin for another few years until they, well, sued the IRS. (spoiler: they had a bad time)

After our whole department was laid off in waves, I decided 12 years in IT was enough for me and I thought I should start my own business...publishing Board Games. On Kickstarter.
Not for nothing, I already had a boardgame published by another company at this point (see: Magnum Opus) but I was told I had the chops to make the big bucks because publishing was where the real money was. Against all odds, I successfully ran and managed that international game publishing company for about six years and we shipped four flagship products (plus three supplemental products) worldwide and profitably until about the COVID/Trump double whammy annihilated the survivability of independent companies like mine. I avoided bankruptcy and paid off 100% of the debt, and went back to fixing computers again. I'm a Technical Engineer once more (despite having been told over 'once you leave IT, they'll never take you back!' and doing just that, I'm not really all that happy, to be honest. When I was publishing, I was fully in charge of all creative and administrative tasks, as well as community management, graphic design, creative game design, media producer, public speaker, documentation, and even accounting...and now I'm just a phone jockey for people who wouldn't be calling in the first if they had read their emails. I can do better than this.

Looking for: A company/organization that is actually interested in reviewing my background in detail in utilizing all of my skills. Not just "holly carp, you're good at computers? Put him on the phones." I produced products with UPCs. I negotiatied a localization project with a German publisher so we could have one of our games produced in German. I did all this while maintaining our own IT needs as well.
I have that special kind of autism that makes me really bored if you make me do the same repetitive mundane task everyday, but if you throw weird/unique problems at me, I will bring surprising solutions and ideas to you that you hadn't considered. Every time. I designed entire internal systems necessary so that a game could proceed from beginning to end without literally crashing and still be "fun," I can do so much more than routing tickets for bloated companies that refuse to train their own new employees. Is "Help me help you." the appropriate phrase here? I don't know.
I've just worked much too hard for much too little for way too long, and I could be doing it for someone who cares a lot more and has more focus on growth.

Desired Salary Range: 85k and up to remain remote, more to return to an office environment, all is negotiable. (inb4 trolls: this is a modest increase from my current compensation and location, ok?)

Willing to relocate? Sure. I hate Phoenix. It's like living on Arrakis. I'd rather WFH but anything is negotiable. Move me somewhere more rural in northern AZ or like Snowflake or western NM or maybe even ABQ or FLG somewhere near those towns and I would probably really be interested.

Contact: PM me, or ian [at] magicmeeplegames [dot] com. My resume is quite ready to go. I hope my tale has been entertaining, at least.

Thank you in advance.

Looking for an electrical engineer familiar with commercial low-voltage distribution design for central Maryland. This would be an in-house facilities designer role. PE and 2D/3D drafting experience preferred, the PE is a nice-to-have but the drafting experience is a hard requirement. Position is hybrid; unfortunately full remote is not possible due to the nature of the job.

You're a pretty pretty pretty pretty pretty pretty pretty pretty pretty pretty pretty pretty girl
more of a lead than an actual posting yet, but:
I work middle management in a hotel chain in Greenland. We're going to be looking for a tourist manager sometime in the next year, to start in spring.

Now, Greenland is in a weird place regarding visas cause it's not in the EU, but it's part of Denmark -kinda- which is. This means europeans and brits dont get automatic work permits, and thus, Americans have a good shot at free healthcare and the backdoor to a Danish visa which comes with living here. We're also looking for a native english speaker, although obviously speaking one of the scandi languages is a plus.

Our tourist manager job is equal parts office work, and actual tourist interaction with some hospitality sprinkled in. You'd need to be certified for a small boat and guiding in general or be willing to go through the process of certifying for it. Someone with experience guiding in the US mountains -even in summer- or similar would probably have a great shot.

Pay isn't anything special, but you get housed and fed, and as i said, it's a sure way to Danish and EU residency. I came into my job here with no hospitality experience, and i mostly just do generic midde managing - you might be able to take over my gig, too, in not too long as ill be moving on due to family stuff.

If living in the Arctic, breathing the cleanest air, and seeing the most amazing nature you've ever imagined appeals and you have some of those skills, PM me. no guarantees, but i can at least make sure your resume gets seen and a fair shot. Job won't be posted until over christmas, but if the right candidate happens to be recommended, we won't have to post it.

Hey goons I'm pounding the pavement for literally any form of employment whatsoever so if you know of ANYTHING, from retail to game dev to QA to call center stuff to teaching I will very literally do anything I am qualified to do for any amount of money equal or above minimum wage.

Seeking

Location: Will relocate to any major city or work remote, as long as I can afford to. NYC/Boston/LA would be cheapest for me to move to due to location & existing support network. Currently located in New England within commuter rail (3-6 hour) distance of both NYC and Boston

Education: MFA in Comics, 2/3rds of a BA in Game Design from USC School of Cinematic Arts (left early to work in dev full time)

Experience: 8 years in game dev in a design role, 2 years in a QA role, 9 years of comics industry experience. 4-time NYT Top 15 Bestselling illustrator. Shipped 7 games, biggest playerbase in a design role was 11 million for a mobile title as lead. Started working in game dev in 2008 in AA. Successfully shipped & pipelined a solo dev game in '23 to great reviews and reasonable success (5k downloads since launch). Worked in a lead editorial role at two major goth/alt lifestyle brands in LA. Superstar at crunch, crazy fast turnaround with art assets for 2D games (2+ fully rendered asset-ready character turnarounds per day on crunch including sketch sheets). I do narrative design, systems design for single-player, game art, and writing; for comics I do everything except covers (pencils, art, flats, colors, lettering), I know bookbinding from commercial to Japanese stab binding. I also was nominated for a Ringo and won the M. Prize in '23 so I am so ready to bring that illustration to LITERALLY ANYWHERE. Past clients include Penguin Random House, Scholastic Graphix, HarperCollins, Disney Hyperion, Mad Cave, and more. SUPER familiar with making IP stuff fans respond to, especially horror/teen angst/comedy. Please let me make video games/draw/design/QA for you! Also taught college & grad school for 2 years (comics fundamentals). I know Unity, basic Unreal, WRPG Editor, have done a shitton of design work for places who use their own/proprietary engines, so I'm great at learning new engines.

Looking for: Literally anything that pays equivalent to or more than min wage. Remote preferred!

Willing to consider relocating: Yep! I can't afford to move on my own so if there's a relo package I will pack it up to anywhere within the continental US or Canada. I will literally move to NYC or Boston if you hire me at Kinko's. I will also move literally anywhere in the world where they're okay with trans people.

Contact: PMs please! I'll also do contract gigs very happily!!

my old job has been posted. if you're interested in single cell / spatial transcriptomics in the bay area (palo alto) at the Sr. Scientist level send me a PM. They're kinda mad at me for leaving so I can't do anything, but I can answer questions and give you inside info to prepare a better application.

Opening hasn't been posted yet, but a department I work with needs an entry-level assistant. DC scientific nonprofit, truly remote (minus the annual meeting every fall), 35 hours/week. PM for more info or reply here if you can't do that.
