An IT Publishing Company is (always) looking for developmental editors. The DEs work with book authors, help them with the flow of text and assure that it is meeting the publishing guidelines.

The DEs are also project managers in a way because they oversee the book progress and report on it. They work on resolving problems such as author working slowly, author resistant to suggestions, author has English as second language, multiple authors on the same book, etc.

Acquisitions Editor
Will acquire quality books and authors in the field of computer science. The ideal applicant will have experience in a similar role and be looking to move to a leading publisher with greater responsibility and flexibility in their day-to-day role. Some experience with the computer technology would be a major asset.

The Acquisitions Editor needs analytical skills to be able to assess market need for individual book titles and is likely to have been educated to degree level in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths subject. They may also have a background in business, have launched a start-up business in the past, or worked in a product development role. They will need excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to be able to propose new book projects and secure funding from the publisher. Duties include:

Internet research and reading to stay on top of market developments
Contacting potential authors to discuss potential book projects
Mentoring potential authors in the preparation of book proposals and book plans
Market research in order to find data to back up proposals
Presentation and discussion of proposals with the publisher
Negotiation of contract terms, royalties and advance payments
Overseeing books through to publication
Day-to-day contact with other members of the team: editors, marketing, publisher, production
Active participation in launch and marketing of books
Helping development editors with issues concerning authors, content and schedule
Writing the marketing and back cover copy for new titles

Technical illustrators
Their job is to create diagrams and other illustrations for book sections that are important, difficult or monotonous (wall of text). Most of the books will be on software development, and diagrams will usually show processes or elements of a system. The technical illustrator should be able to digest the text and create a diagram with minimal guidance. Some knowledge of programming would go a long way.

Video developmental editor
Manning Publications Co. seeks Video Developmental Editors to work directly with video course instructors to create high-quality courses. Ideal candidates are critical thinkers who skillfully identify and articulate weaknesses in organization and teaching, adopt a coaching/mentoring role with instructors, firmly but diplomatically communicate with instructors, work both independently and in a distributed team environment, and reliably meet deadlines to produce courses on deadline. Candidates must possess passing knowledge of software concepts and technologies (such as mobile application development, responsive design, cloud computing, big data and analytics, and agile and lean development). This position uses the critical thinking skills of a book editor along with the visual teaching skills of a video content producer, and candidates can come from a video or book publishing background, but previous experience in video publishing is preferred. This is a great position for someone looking for part-time work.

Primary duties
- Coach instructors on techniques for how to teach difficult or important concepts in their video courses

- Excellent organization and multitasking skills
- Must be comfortable learning new tools relevant to video. Must be proficient in computer usage and comfortable with using online word processing and storage tools, like Google Docs and Box
- Must work well in agile, growing environment where processes may change
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; comfortable communicating via email, Skype, and phone

The publishing company I work has this opening and we're very eager to hire. It's a remote position.

We are looking for a hands-on Finance supervisor to oversee our accounting department’s daily operations. You will work closely with the accounting team members to perform financial functions, including accounts payable/receivable, bank reconciliations and tax audits. Our ideal candidate uses strong analytical skills to create detailed financial reports and forecasts. To succeed in this role, you should also have a problem-solving attitude and be able to manage both your accounting teammates and interact with peers across the organization. Responsibilities
- Oversee daily transactions, including accounts payable/receivable, general ledger and bank reconciliations
- Perform all daily activities when required for team coverage during peak times, PTO for staff, or as the business requires with planned growth

Requirements and skills
- Proven work experience as an Finance Supervisor is preferred but will consider an entry level supervisory candidate with extensive experience

- Experience with accounting software (e.g. QuickBooks, Rights 2020 and other proprietary systems)
- Intermediate to advanced computer application skills, Google sheets in particular (managing spreadsheets, creating charts and using advanced formulas)
- Solid knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles, laws and regulations
- Excellent analytical skills to manage large amounts of data

- Ability to prioritize work
