An RN took charge of me, not allowing me to move, etc.

The cops showed up, then the EMTs. The RN told the EMTs I needed a neck brace and back board.

This RN is far smarter than the EMTs if they were not planning on backboarding you. The mechanism of injury indicates that regardless of the symptoms you currently have, you could have a head/neck/spine injury. Since there aren't CT/MRI/Xrays in the field, you often have to assume the worst based on what happened to the person. Since I'm a ski patroller, I see lots of people flying into trees and those sorts of things. If you run your head into a tree you're going on a backboard until someone with an MD after their name says you're alright. In the grand scheme of things a few hours of discomfort and the expense of a ambulance ride is nothing compared to letting someone who is masking a severe injury walk around and do further damage.

I guess I have a kinda crash to report.

I went for a week long road trip with a girl I was dating to go see some sights up north. It was a good time and all of that until she wanted to switch bikes because her Tuono was making her sore.
I said sure and switched. All was well until she made a wrong turn and we had to turn around. She did a nice U and proceeded to take off. I started a slow U, noticed the bike was trying to go into the ditch instead of turning and due to my slow speed we promptly fell over. The bike wasn't damaged due to my left leg and nut sack catching it. It also had sliders on it but I think that is beside the point. My nuts man.
After she noticed her bike lying on it's side in my rear view mirror she came back and started apologizing profusely. Apparently when she installed the clip ons they reduced her lock to lock turning to about 2 degrees before they hit the tank. She failed to tell me this and I failed to notice due to all of my riding on that bike to that point was going straight.

All in all dumb, but I dropped an Aprilia and all I have to show for it is some black and blue marks.

*Was* dating and this girl rides an Aprilia? Biggest mistake of your life man.

The truck was already stopped/blocking the road when they came around the corner. Clearly the firetruck picked a bad spot to do a u-turn. I'm sure DrC's group was going pretty fast, but you could probably make some sort of a case that the firetruck was making a dangerous/illegal maneuver. That being said, good luck getting anyone to blame the fire dept for the accident. Coming away from that wreck with saying you should always wear your gear is fine, but this is really a lesson in not riding like a cockhole on the streets. I'd suggest taking some of the wrecked bike funds and investing in a track bike and push your limits there instead of the streets.

When it happened I thought my riding buddy behind me had slammed into me. I don't really know what happened. I just felt warm and weightless for what felt like an eternity then I was on the ground. Apparently I got flipped upside down and above this guys roof and landed on my back onto his hood and slid off into the street.

No cuts, my back is all bruised up. As far as gear goes it's all aces minus the helmet. Dianese jacket, back protector(didn't do poo poo), overpants, boots, gloves, all OK. Not a scratch on any of them except the left arm on the jacket(not noticeable unless you're looking).
Helmet was an RF1100 and this is the second time that model has saved my life. The visor snapped off and broke the mounting plate, and the chin bar actually has a huge crack straight down the left side of it all the way through.

You didn't go to the hospital? Any time you get hit in the head you really really really should go to the ER and get a CT scan.

What got me was riding hard towards a wall waiting until the last possible moment to brake hard and swerve off towards another imaginary obstacle.

You are very wrong regarding the fact that you're ok. I'm sorry but I am a ski patroller and deal with people who smack their heads all the time. Until you are evaluated by a doctor you have no way of objectively evaluating yourself. You could also have a bleed that you haven't detected (because you can't on yourself) and you basically could be at a huge risk of dying. DYING. I.E. you stop living - go to a walk in clinic - I guarantee it will be less than the cost of a new Shoei helmet.

You definitely have a concussion - you could have a bleed in your brain that's what they are primarily concerned about. If you do they have a number of treatments they can do to save your life.

You can start a brain bleed with even a very minor concussion.

Edit: I dealt with a kid this year who had a knock to the head but was pretty much completely with it. But, because his pupils were uneven he took an ambulance ride and got a scan. Had another guy who took a far larger / harder hit and was a bit goofy. The doc evaluated him and decided he was OK to go home and have someone just watch him. So...... yah this is dumb - you need to see a medical professional.

If it hasn't gone away by lunch time though, I'll drive out to a clinic, but the nearest one that's not a hospital is like half an hour away so that'll mean I have to take the rest of the day off work and I'd rather avoid it.

Remind me where you got your medical degree?

I basically am an EMT (the national ski patrol version of it) and have been doing it for 16+ years. I do not do the actual evaluations on people that hit their heads, I just drop them off to the doctors that do. A doctor will use a pen light and do quite a bit to see if your pupils are acting normally. They will also use specific questioning methods to make sure all parts of your brain are functioning normally. You have a very low chance that anything is seriously wrong, but the chance is not insignificant.

The doctor will also educate you on how long you should avoid activities where you could hit your head again.

With that said I'm out of this discussion, I've stated why you should seek medical help and that's all I can do. Good luck!

There is no reason anyone is going to send you in for a scan if you don't present any symptoms that would require one. The odds are very good that the doc is going to check you out and send you home with an office visit bill.

Yeah, maybe, but it has insurance, so what difference does it make? Either repairing it costs less than $500 (which it does, I scratched the clutch lever, it's not the end of the world), or it costs more than $500, in which case it costs only $500, because it's insured. poo poo happens.

Sportster is one of the heaviest feeling bikes I've ever ridden. The weight is all up high and it's a seriously hard bike to handle at slow speeds. Almost got wiped out by some shitbag in his Audi coupe today. Was doing the speed limit on West Chester Pike in Newton Square, PA, in the right lane, when the dirtbag sped past me and into the right turn lane next to me. Only missed me by about 3 feet.

I usually let stuff go but since he was going so fast, and because of the nice car/nice area thing I knew he probably wasn't armed, I pulled into the CVS lot he turned into and confronted him. His two chums (one asian, one middle eastern or possibly Italian) get out of the car as I flip up my visor and start SCREAMING about how he was inches from killing me.

The piece of poo poo came out and said that he is an ex-professional race car driver and "knows more than I'll ever know about driving." I tell him that I'm a track motorcycle racer (not really true) and that if he were a real racer, he would know that going fast doesn't belong on public roads. rear end in a top hat starts telling me that he's from Europe and doesn't want a ticket (what??) while he and his chums start moving closer to me. He tells me that he knows about Ducatis and knows Rossi personally, and that he understands how in the U.S. motorcyclists are always in danger. I end up telling him that I'm not there to fight and ask him to just slow down a bit. He's getting louder but not physical and I get bad vibes, fear that he might try to knock me off my bike, and split.

I think I smelled alcohol on his breath at one point. I didn't call the police because it was three fit foreign dudes against one 300 lb guy on a bike, and I didn't think that I could detain him in any way. Should I have called 911?

The MC gets cooked by the exhaust and it's horizontal orientation allows air that sneaks in to cause problems faster. Mine does something if I stomp on it, but it's not very much.
