Anybody with a Kindle read King's new essay, Guns? I've liked all the non-fiction of his that I've read...

There's a comic book version of the flash back portion of Wizard and Glass. If you find yourself slogging through the book you could get the gist that way. Edit: Fair warning, its been years since I read either. Also thhat vvvvvvvv deoju fucked around with this message at 18:58 on Aug 23, 2016 |

If It were to scrape my psyche for what terrified me as a 12 year old it would use Tim Curry in a clown outfit.

Holy poo poo, that trailer. I'm super torn. I want to see it, but I might be too scared. The miniseries freaked me out majorly as a kid.

I wasn't super impressed, but I'm going to stay optimistic. They laid the exposition on pretty thick, but maybe they had to. It's an odd mythos. Also lots of OMG SO BADASS shooty stuff, but that sells tickets. I'm not as hyped as I am for It.

Boyega and Jordan are 25 and 30 respectively. If they were going to tell a story of how young Roland became obsessed with the Tower to the detriment of everything else, I'd want to see him younger, like maybe 17. Both of those dudes own though. It looks like that dude from the All State adds is gonna be Steven Deschain, so maybe there's already a flashback... Have to wait and see. Edit: beaten.

On the subject of blurring the line between the story and your experience of it, I kinda hope there's something like this... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FgNp8th0huw My mind was thoroughly loving blown by that when I saw it in the theater as a kid. Like make it look like some jerk is standing up in front of the projector, blocking the screen, but it is really Randall Flagg.

I put things on top of the books on my shelves when I don't have another home for them. Knick knacks and other poo poo, I've been doing it for years and not really thinking about it. I was looking at my shelf today and noticed this. All things serve the beam.

I just saw the trailer for Dr. Sleep. I'm kinda surprised it leaned into the Kubrick movie's imagery so hard given that King reportedly hates it so much. But then again I guess that's what audiences would be expecting. I wonder how old footage they'll use versus how much they'll need to recreate. I'll probably see it since I love the original so much, but I'm not as excited as I am for It Chapter 2. deoju fucked around with this message at 04:27 on Jun 18, 2019 |

The trailer looked great to me. Except for Pennywise's tongue. Hopefully the final version is better.

Chapter 2 was pretty good, just not as good as the first. I think part of the problem was that everybody knew what to expect from Pennywise this go-around.Davros1 posted:Regarding both films, my big nitpick was ... the kids' section is set in 1989, and not a single person is wearing a Batman shirt? Barlow cast for Salems Lot adaptation. William Sadler is a good character /supporting actor imo. I haven't actually read the book so I dunno if he's right for the role or not. https://ihorror.com/stephen-kings-salems-lot-strars-william-sadler-as-kurt-barlow-vamp-and-has-an-official-release-date/

In contrast, The Silence of the Lambs adaptation is incredibly faithful to the book.

Just finished Salem's Lot. I liked it, but didn't love it. Question though, in the last chapter Barlow is hiding in a root cellar that is padlocked shut and Ben has to take an axe to the door. Who padlocked the door? Did the vampires lock it and just teleport to the other side? Can they do that? deoju fucked around with this message at 06:28 on Dec 15, 2022 |

HBO is doing an IT series with the creators of the films. https://variety.com/2023/tv/news/it-prequel-series-welcome-to-derry-hbo-max-1235533567/ Bill Skarsgard's performance and look are iconic at this point, and if he isn't in it the production will really suffer imo. Edit: just hire one of his cheaper brothers. deoju fucked around with this message at 01:42 on Feb 24, 2023 |

There's a musical tribute to King playing in my town. https://isthmus.com/arts/stage/shining-in-misery-a-stephen-king-mash-up/ Musicals aren't really my cup of tea, and $45 seems a little to much gamble on it. Still kinda neat though.

There's a new book coming out about Kubrick's Shining adaptation. Sounds interesting. https://www.indiewire.com/2023/03/lee-unkrich-pixar-shining-stanley-kubrick-book-1234820940/ It's available for the low low price of $1.5k

While Kubrick's movie is not the most faithful adaptation it is the best movie or show adapted from his work, imo. It's possible to follow a recipe to the letter and make something that tastes like crap, and it's possible to take inspiration and make something delicious. Blade Runner is probably the least faithful adaptation of a Phillip K. Dick story, but it is by far the best.

In his cameo in It Part 2 his character tells Bill he liked his book, but didn't care for the ending. He's definitely aware of the perception his endings sometimes suck.

BiggerBoat posted:Also, Beverly murdered her abusive father in self defense and at the end of the film we learn she's going to love with her aunt. Wouldn't there be a police investigation of some sort? We're never really shown what happens to the body or any of the aftermath there. I know it's Derry but a 13 year old girl murdering her dad would have consequences I think. She for sure knocked him the gently caress out and left him bleeding on the bathroom floor, but I don't remember it being explicit that he died. Assuming he lived everybody being cool with her splitting town to get away from her abusive dad that she hospitalized seems reasonable.

Salem's Lot is going directly to hbo max sometime this year. https://www.ign.com/articles/stephen-kings-salems-theatrical-release-date-max I'd forgotten all about it.
