Something I've also realized is that I become a mirror of the person I am talking to. There are some I work with who are really quiet, so I'm really quiet back. Others are really talkative, and we basically josh each other all day long. Then the quiet people look at me like I have two heads, and I go back to being quiet. I find after I've been hanging out with someone for awhile I pick up on their mannerisms, their way of speech, even how they sound when they speak. I DON'T do this on purpose. I know a lot of stupid people, and when I start sounding like them I could hit myself. My mind is just a very confused, jumbled mess. I guess that's why I like cats so much - I don't really have to be anything around them.)

I don't have ADD(just reading this thread out of interest), but I've got that exact same symptom. I'm not sure weather other people notice it or not, but it must be really off-putting if they do.

Over time I do develop a more solid way of "projecting" myself to certain people/social circles. It can go pretty terribly when different groups mix though, because then I don't have a clue how to act out two different personalities at once. I usually try to avoid it as much as possible though. When one friend from school comes over(with my sister whose also her friend) I'll just stay in my room if it's dinner time or something to avoid being around my friend and my family at the same time. My moms gotten used to it so she just calls me out once the friend has left.

My opinions/views also change a great deal based on who I'm with, much in the same manner as my manner of talk. I don't really have one solid 'personality' that I project to everyone so it leads to a ridiculous amount of anxiety etc over how I'm acting.

Owell this is getting off topic though and not really related to this thread.

this may be a silly question; but two 5mg methylphenidates are equivalent to one 10mg methyphenidate, correct? there isn't any time release in them as far as I know.

Yup, long as they're just straight methylphenidate. time release versions have special brand names

Oh and not to drag on a pointless debate, but anyone who thinks you have to take a stimulant in a certain way or it's instantly just DOIN DRUGS needs to get off their high horse.
First, there is no fine line between recreation and treating a condition. If you think there is, you're sorely mistaken. Quite possibly the majority of people who take stimulants both enjoy them somewhat and also experience non-recreational benefits because it helps them keep their lives together.

Just because your absorbing it through your nose doesn't /mean/ it's drug abuse.. it could simply mean that the stronger dopamine rush, and shorter overall duration, is just what you need to control your ADHD.
Sublingual is another non-approved ROA which can improve effects and lower side effects in certain patients.

poo poo, METH is an approved treatment for ADHD and it's a hell of a lot more recreational that snorting your adderall. Nuff said

No actually, you're loving wrong- there is a distinct difference. The reason you get the abject rejection in this thread is because there is already a stigma associated with ADHD and its treatment. Frankly it's hard enough dealing with the disorder without people going- yeah lets rail some METH dude. Taking stimulants to feel 'normal' in accordance to the rest of society isn't recreational or enjoyable. Stop dancing around the technicality of sub-lingual ingestion and Desoxyn to falsely contextualize your bullshit interwebs argument. 5mg tablets of Desoxyn aren't cooked in a trailer park kitchen, METH often is.

Oh boohoo! Some people think ADHD doesn't exist! Whine about a real problem if your going to whine. It's not like it's a serious problem, just don't tell people you have ADHD and stop acting like people railing their adderall are seriously having the slightest affect on your life. The vast, vast majority of the world doesn't give a poo poo why you do take an amphetamine pill in the morning
I wasn't even a part of the argument, I just came along and saw know it alls like you trying to pretend like there's an /intrinsic/ difference between people who absorb their drug through one part of their body as opposed to another. It's kind of hilarious.

Lol@complaining that IM contextualizing. Your the dude complaining about people judging ADHD people because they /don't/ get the context of patient's stimulant use. And your whole argument about Desoxyn vs. Meth is.. contexualization! Which I completely agree with because meth is a legitimate treatment option, but get off your high horse and stop thinking you know whether someone snorting amphetamines is using it for a useful reason or not.

People can use their medicine however they find it most beneficial. Whether that happens to be a method that some people use to get high is so obviously non-consequential I can't imagine what's going through your head..

Ritalin is more likely to lend itself to thinking/planning than say going around your house accomplishing chores full of energy and feeling great about it. Obv not cut and dry, but amphetamines are more likely to cause that

MP isn't really a very dangerous or euphoric stimulant, generally. I wouldn't be too worried, but also don't be disappointed if it stops giving such positive effects after a bit.
Get to a doctor for that depression though, for real. Or even order some antidepressants online if you really, really can't afford a doc visit.
Wellbutrin and Abilify are both strong, motivating antidepressants which work on dopamine, just as ritalin does.

Zoloft is a good SSRI with a bit of dopamine action too.

A lot of people say amphetamines make them less creative, more "left brained" and logical. But it isn't cut and dry at all, some great novels have been written on amphetamine, and other creative endeavors

Try piracetam for writing fluidity in particular

Any ideas on something I can do to keep my hands busy while I listen to audio books?
I can pay attention to audio just fine where I would never pick up the book and bother to read more than a few pages myself.

But, listening to audio books can still leave me fidgety and bored. Any ideas? There probably isn't much I have to accomplish with my hands on a given day, so pointless repetitive games/tasks/whatever are fine
too bad I'm not into knitting..

Has anyone in hear found lasting help from behavior modification, CBT, following self-help ADHD books, etc?
Stimulants help, but I know I'd be so much better off if I could learn to think straightly, and just learn habits to stay organized and on-task

Specifically ADHD-PI. I'm not sure what book to pick up, they all look the same.. but I don't want to get one and have half of it just related to controlling hyperactivity, which I don't really have

Does anyone feel like they need to take a poo poo shortly after taking vyvanse, most of the time? And how dangerous it is to run at a full sprint while on stimulants ? I'm guessing it would be bad if you were fat and unconditioned, and not as bad if you are just skinny and unconditioned.

Yeah I've noticed that. Though magnesium messes with that so much it's hard to tell them apart.
And then either vitamin B6 or the B complex I started makes my piss neon green/yellow.

I think exercising on stims is generally okay if your taking a dose your used to and keep an eye on your heart rate. Major studies have recently found long term stim use in ADHD people isn't very dangerous too

I wonder how athletes in highschool through professional sports are treated who get stims for ADHD? I remember reading MLB players suddenly started getting diagnosed when amphetamine was banned from use unless for medical reasons

There's a lot of things I /love/ being over stimulated by, but for some reason when I'm doing aerobic exercise I just want to be on a machine staring at a blank wall. I think it's cuz I don't want to multitask, both pedaling hard and looking around dodging cars and crossing streets

Yeah it's annoying, just because you can't say "I have ADHD" without putting yourself in a worse position than you already were when someone is scolding you for continually not finishing things, forgetting things, etc.
I don't really care whether I ultimately 'have' it or not, I just care that no one else will ever think I do.

Stimulants don't fix the root of ADHD at all (whatever it may be, genes, something in your past, diet), they're just like a fake limb for a paraplegic.
Then again, fake limbs are faster than normal ones at least in some situations ;)

Taking 30mg or so of DXM a day really does wonders for tolerance. Much beyond what could just be placebo. I also took a 150mg dose for recreation twice.
I only did it for a week, and while not taking Vyvanse for a 2 week period, and I've gone from 120mg to 20mg.

Large doses don't produce euphoria or anything, but it's nice to take less and know I can keep using this medicine without it's effects becoming weaker and weaker every month.

Yeah there's a huge difference between a little little bit of weed from time to time to slow you down or clear your thoughts, or make you mindful, or put you to sleep, and doing it all the time.

I did it all day every day for more than a year before being diagnosed with ADHD.
I wasn't much interested in other drugs because weed was the only sort-of practical thing to do 24/7 just to make normal un-stimulating life have a little color and be interesting. Food, music, or just sitting there could be satisfying in an immediate way that they weren't otherwise. I think for this reason weed in particular can trap people with unmanaged ADHD.

For me it took moving from a small rural town with pot head friends, to a big city with more.. active friends and things to do, to get me off.
I also just had to tell my self to stop justifying it. If I had to do it, okay. But no telling myself it wasn't detrimental.

Exercise every day to try and increase your appetite. Not going to be in your face like smoking weed and getting the munchies, but just make it a habit and your body will ask for more food.
If you can only eat so much make sure it counts. Lots of protein, no fluff
Protein smoothies are probably easy to chug when you're stimmed out

Do you have to be refereed to a specialist anyhow? My psychiatrist has the price for an ADHD new-patient first visit printed and put on the wall. $300 or something and then they expect you to come back at intervals for checkups.
I mean that isn't cheap at all, but I'm pretty sure you can skip going to your normal doctor at least. A past diagnosis should make it a piece of cake to be diagnosed fast too. I'd call a psychiatrist in your area and explain your situation and they should make an appointment and tell you the price. At least then you can save up for it.

What kind of tests do y'all get? I only ever got the 15 or so question questionnaire. I assumed any other test would only be if you requested it.

I've moved 4 hours and need to find a new psychiatrist. I'm on one side of a large city and will be going to college about 40 minutes away (other side) in a few months.
So I think I'm going to find a psychiatrist over there.
Or, should I inquire with the college to see if they'd offer a free psychiatrist? They're private, 1300 students, so they likely don't have extensive healthcare offerings.

I just need someone local to check in with and give me prescriptions for my medication.

^Agreed. Give family members or spouses Delivered from Distraction. Tell them it's a big favor for you for them to read it. Offer them some fancy dinner out if they finish it, whatever works.
Having the people around you understand your condition and how to work with it is SO important.
I've only been diagnosed for a year now and I wouldn't have thought it at first, but drat does it matter a lot.

You cant get a private pilots license because of ADHD? What about a parachuting license?
First ones something which would probably never happen but second is just like $3000 and then you can jump outta the sky every weekend.
Was set on doing that, im gonna be pissed if I find out this diagnosis blocks me from it for no good reason

Yeah it can, though it isn't generally a treatment for it. If you're just starting don't be disappointed if the mood heightening effect diminishes somewhat.
Some people think they suffer from depression but it goes away once they get in control of their lives through treatment of ADHD, so that could also factor in.

The direct effect might stick though. No ones sure whether or not it releases serotonin.

You're taking way too much offense to what he said but I have the same frustration.. that is, people always assuming approaching the problem directly is the best way, i.e. "it's your choice, just try harder", while really indirect means are much more effective.
It can be really loving exasperating but I know they don't understand it, and have every right to judge me just as they would anyone else, and are really frustrated with me seeming to not try, so I just listen.

But what wilfredmerriweathr was saying was just good advice about exercise and diet so don't release it all on him haha. Those are two 'indirect' things, especially exercise, which can have a huge improvement on what you get done.

I have inattentive ADHD, not the "too much going on in my head" type at all, but I still looove anything stimulating and/or engaging.
I consider it a blessing as something as simple as driving around town is really satisfying, and listening to loud music is pretty much heaven.
