Help us be and stay organized. And for the love of god - just tell me what to do. We're bad enough keeping ourselves on-task the last thing we should be doing is telling other people what to do.

I may just try not having any coffee or anything tomorrow and see how that goes. Heh, that's an excellent description of ADHD and the affects of Adderall. Though, I wonder is an ADHD person with Adderall a normal person now? If so, goddamn all you normal people got it so easy! EDIT - On the subject of adderall, did anyone absolutely hate Ritalin,Strattera, etc but found adderall was the only one that worked well. COME AT ME BROS!" and more of, "Ugh I hate my job, but I have a ton of work to do and I can stay focused on the job at hand so I can get to other tasks later." You will have a more subtle reaction to the medication as time goes on, but there is a striking difference between being on Adderall and being off it, even when it's not completely I don't know about the rest of you, but I was prescribed 20MG, I break up my pills into thirds and there's still a subtle effect but totally worth. The first time I took adderall, I wondered why I was shaking so much later that evening, it was because I hadn't had anything to eat all day, I totally forgot.

Has anyone had to do ADHD re-testing? I've 28 years old and I've been on/off the lowest dose of adderall. I use it when I need it and don't because it's expensive, makes turn me into a bigger rear end in a top hat than I already am and I don't want to develop a tolerance because it helps me tremendously. My local doctor told me all the sudden I need ADHD re-testing and i'm suppose to have it every 4-7 years. The last time I had it was sometime in '97 and I am pretty certain no one grows out of ADD... The testing takes up an entire day and costs a $1,000. This is ridiculous, who else has had to jump through the same hoops?

Often when I write emails, a post on SA, paragraphs fill in themselves. I know the difference between there, their and they're but when I'm typing it just doesn't ever get implemented. Sometimes I just miss words and the first time I re-read what I wrote it looks great but the second or third time I'll notice that I'm missing a few things. I also have a unhealthy amount of unfinished projects and I have an incredibly low tolerance towards any kind of noise while I'm working. I also prefer public speaking as opposed to any kind of meeting. The second I leave any meeting I'll notice I missed a ton of little things I just missed or should have said. When I'm on the phone or with a group of people it's often confusing to me when it is or isn't my turn to speak. Is this ADD?

Since I've started taking meds, I've been learning programming, and I can see web development being something I will do for a long time, because ultimately, technologies are constantly changing and you get near-instant gratification with your work, but I've also talked to other people with ADHD who loving despise the idea of coding a web app and all the weird little controllers and dependencies you wind up shifting around for every single project. I actually don't mind programming but that means I'd have to start my entire career over and going back to school. That's a hard sell when I'm nearly 30.

Marv Albert posted:You need to get your ADHD well medicated before you should even ponder the question "what's a good ADHD job?" The reason I brought this up, was due to this article A Natural Fix for A.D.H.D. I ended up dropping out of college but somehow managed to climb through various IT jobs to the point where I don't need to go back and get a degree. In retrospect this was a terrible idea but again it's worked out for me. I used to be on the lowest dose of adderall but my general doctor says I need to take test 96118 or 96119 before she can prescribe me adderall again. I tested positive for ADD when I was kid and I'm little skeptical of her claim but my insurance will cover testing so...

When not on Adderall I work differently. I'll see an email, read it, start typing a response but get distracted by another email that just came in and start reading that. Then out of the blue I'll remember there's a server I need to check on that's rebooting, then I'll start looking through the server logs from last week with that other application problem. Suddenly, I'll remember that email I didn't finish start working on that then remember one of my co-workers just got back from vacation and I should see how it went. When I'm on Adderall, I'll start doing stuff like this but I'll notice more often that I'm getting distracted and stay on one thing at a time. I'm also never hungry, any kind of minor noise pisses me off immensely and I'm more of a emotionless rear end in a top hat.

It's not going to make you irritable but any kind of psycho-stimulant may potentially increase or decrease certain feelings such as anger, sadness, depression, etc For the record, I took the lowest dose? I think at one point I started splitting my pills in two. This had all the focus benefits without feeling cracked out.

Baby Babbeh posted:On therapy: Yes. CBT is great for ADHD — it helps you to recognize when your mind is going off in unproductive directions and reign it in before it's too late. It's not a replacement for medication, in my opinion, because when you're not medicated you might not have the capacity to pull yourself out of a dive even if you notice it happening. But it can help you to make the best use of the space that medication affords you. Try to find a therapist who specializes in ADHD, because they can also usually help you with organizational strategies and suggest small tweaks to your routines that will make a big difference. If your psych does a lot of ADHD treatment, they might have suggestions of local people who are good. I've been on several ADHD/ADD medications and the only one that's ever been worth a drat is Adderall. A single 5MG pill, the lowest does, in the morning has made a huge difference. While this worked wonders for me it may not work for you, talk to your doctor. On another note, my health insurance sucks is there a way to get CBT through a book?

Have you told your doctor about that? I'd stop using it ASAP. Question for the thread, is there a difference between a 5MG and a 10MG Adderall prescription? I didn't up my dosage but the pharmacist recommended 10MG as I may split the pills and it's cheaper but I almost feel like the effect is gone? It's like I received bunk pills and someone told me I could have been given a trial. Would my doctor even do that for someone who's been diagnosed as a child and as an adult for ADHD?
