Draw a Box said don't use pencil and start with pen.

I mean if that's The Program then there's no harm in using pen toward completing the tasks laid out for you

b-uuu-uuu-uut

You should also look outside the immediate demands of any given specific, step-by step thing if you're trying to hone yr craft. I'm not sure what the draw a box program actually is, but if it would do you good to look at all sorts of different, fundamental techniques in order to create a good and solid baseline that you can grow and explore from. Your drawings look like they're improving, keep up what you're doing, but also broaden your horizons a little i guess.

And for your own sake, please do not make your main source of feedback a bunch of randos on a long-irrelevant internet comedy internet forum subforum. Ask your friends, post it on social media, take a class, develop your own eye and use common sense. You can learn from the people here but ultimately that other stuff is going to reap more valuable dividends

I think mainstream theatrical 2D animation is due for a comeback in 10-20 years, or whatever amount of time it takes between the current hollywood system collapsing in on itself and inexperienced young producers looking to make money on risky projects. And then it'll fall out of vogue again in 2050 or 2060 or so or just whenever the new system becomes complacent like the old one did, just like how it happened in the seventies, etc etc

What is your rationale for this?

a hunch.

Seriously tho, the amount of money mainstream hollywood/blockbuster films have to make back to be considered financially viable is ballooning to asinine rates and studios have elected to keep bloating the market with more and more of them at all times of the year, and just like....it can only go on like this for so long, y'know? Expecting billion dollar returns on every product you make is....not a sustainable business model. It's a bubble and it's gonna pop sometime.

And like, besides all that....at some point the world is going to be different, because right now it is already different than it used to be.

Frederator is a little more open to pitches than most networks are I think because they're very much into curating ~online content.~ Like I pitched em an extremely sloppy pilotboard a year and a half ago and I'm just some dick

Opentoonz! It's what I use to animate. It's a free open source version of Toonz, the software used to make Ghibli films like Spirited Away.

You can work in a timeline and just export to gif.

BTW for others, a new Opentoonz version was released. It now has a couple powerful tweening tools. They are slowly closing the gap between this and Toonboom.

For us unpaid Poor's that is huge.

Do you know any good resources on how to use this? Last time I tried diving in it were nigh impenetrable

YouTube! I liked Mr Dan Insane's initial tutorials. They are short and to the point but he hasn't kept at it through the updates. There should be quite a few people doing tutorials at this point.

I started day one with it, and though I had previous experience with Flash and Toonboom I didn't find it too difficult to get started. The biggest deal is learning all of the small ease of life differences moving around the ui.

I'll check these out!

Here's a tip for everyone in return, if you can find old dot matrix printer paper around anywhere it is an excellent alternative to a pegbar/hole punch setup. it even comes easily flippable and is good to do storyboard sequences on because of the perforated edges. here's a testy study i did in like a day with just that setup and a $16 light table! https://twitter.com/thecigarliker/status/945732596675125248

Okay, that zombie one was too small so I made a new one with the hands easing in and out. This is painfully obvious but I drew this one straight ahead since I just wanted to get a feel for what you guys were saying.

Then I went and did a more irregular walk cycle, one which gives me a reason to have more variation in timing.

Not gonna be my last walk cycle by a long shot but I do think I'll go ahead and start on the sneaks and runs part of the book now.

I think the effect of heaving the object is a good thought and well timed BUT if you wanted to expand this i'd recommend breaking it down into littler actions...which you've drawn the heads for already! just like time it uneasily so it looks more like he's struggling if you get my drift

Clip Studio Paint recently put out a new version that came with new brush sets, so I decided to try some out for animation.

I liked how this looks, and would add using the watercolor as a cycle would strengthen its textural effect. Have you ever done sumi ink/how big do you work usually?

I appreciate that this film was skeptical yet not dismissive of the weird mojo about meditation. You're really doing crazy stuff with the lighting and textures, was there any trick to the prism?

Does anyone know a reason a camera won't animate in Blender? I have keyframes set but it just snaps back to the original position settings when i move the marker.

Opentoonz proving to be the best thing yet for timing drawn animation. Great x sheet and lip sync tools! I haven't finished any shot with it yet but the tools look comprehensive and useful for large products. Boof Head, check this one out.
