Basically it was a sort of protofanflow from years ago. I don't think it's available on the regular Fanflow now, though.

Yeah, I think this is what some people are reacting poorly to. It's not so much him experimenting (I doubt that many people were angry about him and Hiram the Blacksmith), it's that gay experimentation is appearing as an element of horror here.

And if people really think that THAT represents a good way for Teodor to come out of the closet (not that I ever got the impression he was in the closet to begin with), then I don't even know what to say to any of you guys.

I think it's probably nothing new to him. I seem to recall he briefly hung out at the unofficial Achewood forum years ago but they scared him off.

Actually, I just checked to see if it was still alive (it is), and found this, which explains more history than I knew. Assuming it's accurate.

quote:

Back in 2003, when the world was new, there was a message board called Dumbrella. On this board was an Achewood fora, and Onstad himself was the moderator. The board regulars - including myself and some others who are still active here - became friends and started occasionally drifting off-topic. (OK, more than occasionally.) Additionally, while we were all drawn together by a mutual love of Achewood, we more often than not disagreed (and still usually do) about which strips were good, and which ones were "meh." Onstad, working hard on launching his career as an artist (the comic was not quite two years old at the time), abruptly and unceremoniously decided to close down the board. Our Fearless Leader, Jough, generously volunteered to host a new board, and I was elected co-admin. We lived in relative peace and harmony until four years later, when Onstad decided to start AssetBar. We, the fans who have been there buying t-shirts and hoodies from the beginning, felt betrayed. And we passed that bitterness and betrayal on to you, the AssetBar user!

I'm not actually linking to the forum because even two pages into the thread I pulled this from they're sounding like a bunch of bitter dicks and no one should read it.

also you can't have "a fora" goddammit

If Onstad took a bunch of money from fans in pre-orders and hasn't delivered at all, has made no notice of his intention to deliver the items that were pre-ordered, and in fact appears to no longer operate his online store from which they were ordered... should fans start discussing fraud charges against him?

I have no desire to throw the guy under the bus but I can't really see this behavior as anything but fraudulent, unless I'm missing something here.

I would at least try to get a chargeback, unless you've have an order for so long that it's not possible (I dunno the time limits for those things).

The stuff about the store doesn't make a lot of sense. People don't have the discretionary income for a t-shirt, but they have enough to donate for nothing, or pay for commissions? Not to mention the fact that plenty of other webcomics and small websites continue to support themselves through merchandise, even in the recession. I wonder if Achewood's audience is smaller than other webcomics or if he just had a lovely deal on the margins for his shirts.
