I have cars that won't let you have the keys until you turn them off all the way. I'm OK with that.
except for the AE86, on which the key - singular- is so worn it almost falls out regardless of key position. It took me a week to figure out why the radio was staying on. It's because it's a manual, and you have to do the extra thing to actually get the key to "off", and I was just going to accessory and removing the key.)

Have some respect, that cop will have given his life so they can tack a murder charge on to the suspect of the high speed chase they instigated.

A touch late to the interlock chat but how about this: Not allowing wipers (auto or otherwise) to turn on while the drivers door is open when starting the car. Everyone who's ever lived in a snowy area knows the feeling of jumping in the car, door still open, to start it up and get defrosters going, only to have the snow on the windshield trigger the auto wipers and push a huge pile of snow over the a-pillar and into the car. Or say, you left the wipers on when you parked in the non-auto wiper example. CMON!!!

auto wipers in drive or reverse only would fix that, good idea

Hondas (at least my 2017 accord and 2016 odyssey) have an interesting feature where if the wipers are set to intermittent, they will always initiate at least one full sweep when you come off the brake from a stop. The rear wiper will turn on continuously if the front wipers are on at any speed / frequency and you shift into reverse.

Handy, but was confusing the first few times it happened.

amenenema
Feb 10, 2003

Oh one other auto wipers necessity - add a moisture sensor somewhere on the front of the car, not just the optical sensor on the glass. Drive for 50 miles in gnats or something and one big one triggers the wipers and smears them all over the glass. As pinpoints they're nearly invisible, but one swipe of the wipers converts them to a lens covered in Vaseline.

When I activate the windshield cleaner spray on my Toyota it will spray fluid on the window, run the wipers through three cycles, wait 5 seconds for the windshield to dry, then run the wipers an extra cycle. Annoying as hell if I'm not trying to use the spray in rainy weather.

Chlorine eats aluminum(cylinder heads) and rusts iron(block) quite quickly, espcially in the presence of heat.

Go to the pool supply aisle of any major retailer and, if they stock the tabs on flat metal or wire shelving, you'll find it rusted to gently caress wherever the coating has worn off.

As an aside, that why chlorine tablets are usually stacked up on a pallet. This is also why bleach containers usually come in boxes that you can take the top and front off for display (PDQ).

Horrible mechanical failure:

I worked at a store that kept loose bleach bottles on metal shelving that could hardly support the weight. The shelves were rusted to poo poo, so I made it my mission one day to swap them out for less lovely shelves. Got all the bleach moved off and the first 4ft. shelf I lifted sheared off every one if it's retaining tabs with a dry, crumbling sound. I guess bleach had spilled into the slots for years on end and rusted the tabs and slot together.

For the uninitiated, that kind of shelving has squared off hook-like tabs, facing up, that engage into slots in the fixture itself. The tabs apply force to the top of the slot and a buttress on either side support the shelf from the bottom by resting on rails the containing said slot.

One bump into those shelves, hard enough to lever them up a bit, would probably have resulted in hundreds of pounds of bleach bottles cascading down on the person who smacked the fixture.

My reward for catching that was having to install a whole new fixture. I accomplished nothing else that shift.

Where do they do this? This is how bleach is found on store shelves everywhere I've been in the US:

Independent grocery stores mostly, because they can be a bit more creative in how they display things vs., say, Walmart or Publix. Save-A-Lot really likes keeping things in PDQ's, as an example of a chain that uses them often. More companies used to do this, but have moved away from it. You will always have a few singles and keeping boxes on the shelf fucks with spacing on those. It looks kinda... eh.

That exact bottle of bleach you posted comes 6 to a case, with perforations to tear out the front/front-top. You tear the case open and slide the entire thing on the shelf. Another display procedure is to stack these on a teeny little plastic pallet (stack base) or plastic soda carrier turned upside down, with only the top box opened. As it sells down, you add a case and tear it open, add a case and tear it open, until the inventory sells down enough that you can take what's left in singles and pop them in partial cases on the shelf.

I like PDQs. They keep the shelf neat, rotating product is easy (remove old box, add new box, replace old box towards the front), moving product to the front of the shelf is easy, and it prevents round product from escaping it's assigned area when moved.

Thank you for attending my TED talk.
