I got a letter from VW extending the length of the warranty on the center brake light. Why? Because the light is in the spoiler and the only way to change it is to cut the spoiler off the car, fix the light, glue it back to the car, and repaint.

Thanks, VW!

What the hell would that cost?

Sounds like having to remove the front fender on the New Beetle in order to change the headlight (do you still have to do that?).

That's hosed up. You should be able to do simple stuff like changing out a light without have to take the damned car apart.

I have a '96 Camry and had to change out the headlight and side marker light assemblies and it was stupidly simple - five bolts, one nut, and one screw. Took me 15 minutes.

According to this that isn't true. Granted it's old now but I can't imagine things changing that much in the span of a year.

Diesel dominates the passenger car market in the EU;
in 2012, 55% of all newly registered cars were
powered by diesel engines. As ever, there is significant
variation among Member States. Belgium, France,
and Spain have diesel take-up rates of around 70%,
while in the Netherlands the rate is much lower,
29% (Fig. 4-1).

That's because, from what I hear, end-of-life for a UPS truck is actually end-of-life. They run them for about 25-30 years.

I read somewhere that when the trucks can no longer meet US emission standards (based on what state they're in), they get shipped to countries where the standards aren't so high. Then they get run to death.
