teamgod posted:Wow, this is perfect. Thank you so much for posting this. You've made browsing flickr so much easier and natural. Scroll, scroll, scroll, all day long! I got sick of the way flickr makes you view peoples photostreams too a few days ago and knocked this up in a couple of nights - http://superpositionkitty.com/bettr/ (more here - http://superpositionkitty.com/2010/05/introducing-bettr/ ). I know it doesn't have scroll, scroll, scroll, all day long (I may actually add infinite scroll for that, but I'm not sure how that'll deal properly with flickr's harsh api rules), and it's still a little slow sometimes, but maybe somebody will find it as useful as I do. EDIT: See below post for updated version. I HATE CARS fucked around with this message at 17:37 on May 26, 2010 |

Helmacron posted:And it's not a terrible photo to me, but it does look semi-snapshottish. The composition is great, but you can totally rule of thirds a flower and it's still a flower. It's just a street, and some super-straight buildings. (look at the first two lamposts)

unleash the unicorn posted:This is awesome. Now make it so I can put my own username at the end of the URL and send it to my friends. Please. Hah, I was wondering why I was getting so many hits on that app today. Okay, you've convinced me - I'll see what I can do for you with that. EDIT: The scaling is using the medium-sized images from Flickr - which are the only reliably sized images you can pull through the api. It scales by finding the width of your browser and then scales each image individually to be the correct width to fit three columns to a page. What do you think is 'quick and dirty' about it? Okay, done: http://bettr.superpositionkitty.com/ You can link to peoples 'pages' on bettr like so: http://bettr.superpositionkitty.com/#/harry kaufmann/. Bojanglesworth posted:The reason it wasnt working for me was because I was trying to use my sign in name and not my actual user name. When you go to flickr and it says "Hello, KingColliwog" its that name. Im not sure if thats what you are trying or not, but thats where my mistake was. Added error checking to tell you where to find their username. KingColliwog posted:edit 2 : I just looked at images that really suffer from this and it's because they were made bigger so there's probably not much that can be done if you can't use the large images as source. Yep, I'm afraid if the width of your images is much less than 500px you'll get some bad resizing. Anyway, let me know if you guys find any bad bugs in it, I've done the best I can at a short notice but it may have some errors as I could only test the latest versions of firefox, chrome, and opera. Also any other feature requests are welcome. I HATE CARS fucked around with this message at 17:02 on May 26, 2010 |

And what happens if you replace the space with %20 ? EDIT: Sorry for derailing this thread Brad, I didn't think people would be that interested in it. Would you prefer I made a new thread for it? EDIT: 4, think i fixed it, see Flickr thread. VVV Done. I HATE CARS fucked around with this message at 19:25 on May 26, 2010 |

So I'd been following My Little Dead Dick back when it started (2006), but they broke up and it was bad and all the photos disappeared. Well I decided to take a look for them today and it looks like they're friends again and the photos are back up - http://www.hellopatpat.com/mldd_e.html This is probably my favourite autobiographical work ever.

poopinmymouth posted:I certainly was saying the opposite. I cannot stand the attitude that art that garners main stream appeal isn't "real art" or is inferior to the more esoteric stuff that requires nearly a phd to understand. There is a need for both and they feed of each other. But in my personal opinion, art that can entertain the masses is a lot more justifiable than ivory tower stuff. Being able to be a full time artist, or even dabble in it part time, is an awfully self indulgent life in comparison to the majority of the world's population. I think at some point there is a certain social contract aspect that comes into play. What the hell am I reading here. Firstly, what are we trying to justify? And secondly, a list of jobs that a 'self indulgent' compared to the majority of the world's population is pretty loving massive and being an artist is nowhere near the top.
