16-bit Butt-Head posted:theres an andre the giant documentary where hogan says he wasnt sure if Andre was going to job to him at WM3 or go into business for himself, brother that one is actually true, but it was just a rib from Andre. He wanted to make sure that people knew he was still the main guy so whenever he was meeting with Vince and Hogan he'd be vague about if he would do the job or not, just to mess with Hogan. quote:Leading up to the match, the question was whether or not André was ready to let Hulk Hogan beat him. And so, yet another myth was created. Truth be told, none of the boys in the back knew the finish; no one but Pat Patterson, Vince McMahon, Hulk Hogan, and André knew what was going to happen. Over the years, conflicting stories have emerged, creating even more folklore. From Pat Laprade and Bertrand Hebert's Andre the Giant book from a few years back.

Didn't he have Undertaker believing for months, maybe years, that Taker had hosed up his neck with the Tombstone at Survivor Series 92? Then, upon review, Hulk's head came nowhere close to the ground. Safest tombstone ever, lmao

Yeah it's carnies all the way down. Hogan operates like he's under a fae curse where he has to lie when describing his life. I feel like the attendance of Wrestlemania III and weight of Andre go up every time he tells that story

Safest tombstone ever, lmao The one monkey wrench thrown into this is that if Hogan completely faked the injury, he didn't just do it to mess with Undertaker's head (or at least disrupted more than that). Hogan was unable to cut his hard sell promo for Tuesday in Texas because he was being tended to, with Sean Mooney having to do it instead, and that clearly wasn't the original plan.

Random, but Bobby Heenan would always say "Who?" whenever Gorilla would mention Sean Mooney, and that poo poo cracked me up every time. Heenan was awesome, and one of the best parts of Goldberg's rise in WCW was hearing Heenan legit mark out for him.

It’s interesting that Hogan tries to not lie at least once saying that Taker took care of him and whatever happened to his neck wasn’t Taker’s fault. But I assume he was just being a weird loving baby. I also love the line of “they wanted to fuse the discs in my neck but I said no” because it makes him sound like a big tough guy, even if there might be a shred of truth in there somewhere.

Drakkel posted:But did he smell death? Given how Kerry passed, I'm glad Hogan didn't try that. The story doesn't work for a lot of reasons, of course, mostly that it was supposedly on a plane ride to Japan and Kerry was probably not allowed to leave the country right before he died because he'd broken probation on drug charges (and was looking at a lot of jail time, which no doubt added to his depression). Also Hogan didn't wrestle in Japan until much later that year which I believe is where we got that interview of him just absolutely burying the WWF belt.

Dawgstar posted:Given how Kerry passed, I'm glad Hogan didn't try that. He'd been arrested on January 13 for cocaine possession, which was a violation of his probation. Based on accounts from friends and family (and his probation officer), he was despondent and talking about suicide for the whole month between the January arrest and his February felony indictment. Excepting the two weeks after his cocaine arrest, Kerry wrestled in Dallas at the Sportatorium pretty much every Friday from November until his death. To be fair to Hogan, he and Kerry were both on the same Tokyo Dome show on December 12, 1991. They were also on the same Tokyo Dome show in March 1991. Granted, both of these are over a year before Kerry Von Erich died, but it is entirely possible they had a long conversation on one of these flights. It has more plausibility (with a layer of Hogan bullshit slathered on top) than many of his stories, which appear to be complete fabrications. For me, the low key greatest Hogan lie is the one he told recently about how it was his idea to headline Wrestlemania III with him vs. Andre, and he came up with it a week or two before the show was happening. Vince and company were panicking about how no one was buying tickets to WM3 and they were going to have to move the show to a smaller building. Plus, the owner of the Silverdome called him and said the Rolling Stones were going to be there the weekend before, and no one will buy wrestling tickets the week after a Rolling Stones concert! But Hogan thankfully managed to convince Vince to announce Hogan vs. Andre, and the rest is history. The Rolling Stones bit is probably him misremembering that WWF claimed (and the Silverdome disputed) that WM3 in 1987 sold more tickets than the previous record holder for Silverdome attendance, the Rolling Stones in 1981. Hogan also claims at other times that the Rolling Stones had to cancel their show in the Silverdome because they couldn't fill it (they actually added a second date in 1981, and again when they played two straight nights in the Silverdome in 1989 which was coincidentally the first time they toured the US after 1981), but regardless, he and the 94,000+ Hulkamaniacs probably outnumbered the people at those shows, no matter how many dates they had. Also you know, Hogan vs. Andre at WM3 was hyped for months and was moving tickets months before the time that Hogan supposedly came up with the idea. Hulk Hogan was even part of televised angles building to the match for months prior to the event. Time and space are an illusion when you are in the grips of Hulkamania, so who is to say when that airplane ride with Kerry Von Erich happened? Perhaps it hasn't even happened yet, brother!
