Importantly the first Nitro was not head to head with live raw, and was not for several weeks.

Raw used to be pre-taped though i forget if thats why for the first few weeks Nitro was effectively unopposed.

not to mention that WCW's steroid policy was even more lax than WWF's, which was still very lax but Vince tried to keep it lower because of the steroid trials, and the thought of uninhibited roided up Shawn Michaels is a depressing one

I quit watching the moment David Arquette became champion necause even to teenage me it was clear this had no respect for the title as a thing to be won by the best. It was such an insult. I tried WWF too but Arquette was so poisonous i gave up for several years until mid 2000s RoH brought me back as it was like this is what wrestling could be again. Took 15 years for that dream to become reality.
