Don't think I've ever changed a movement control option as fast as I have with Ctrl - Alt - Ego. It seems interesting but very janky and I'm struggling with how much I dislike its whole aesthetic. The whole 3 letter acronym explosion and cat pix poo poo springs from the mind of a truly insufferable millennial mind. The main mechanic seems cool though, it's what I imagine the game Geist for Wii was although I've never played it. Shadow of a Doubt and the SS1 Remake are also on sale right now if anyone wants a new game to play.

Played a bit with the RTX Remix renderer, unfortunately it's not really viable at the moment. The NPCs look terrible, it crashes a fair amount, it makes things like mirrors and laser security beams invisible, and when you use a scope it's just a big black box in the middle so you can't aim. Cool idea but it needs serious work.

Moved on to Human Revolution and I'm still amazed how good the art direction is in this game. I want all this furniture and these light fixtures. loving criminal this studio got put on bullshit and then killed instead of getting to do the third one. They managed to make good sequels to Deus Ex, a task I did not believe was possible before they did it. Huge waste of talent.

I remember when AI in the games industry just meant the logic determining which interactions an enemy or other non player character took

Problem with the game industry in regards to hiring practices is that it's every bit as exploitative as much more boring industries but can often sway people with the coolness factor. "gently caress you, pay me" is the order of the day with any corporation.

I looked into the industry when I was a younger lad considering my future prospects, but even then it seemed like nothing but bad pay, terrible crunch, gross Cosby-room co-workers, and worst of all, having gamers for clients.

24 years later, Warren Spector offers more details about Deus Ex's cut 'Denver airport conspiracy' mission that was 'so crazy no one would believe it'Warren Spector posted:"I came up with a mission series that the team was going to implement and make better, because that's what teams do. One was a Denver airport conspiracy mission. I cut that one because it was so crazy, no one would believe it. Underground tunnels, holding pens with barbed wire to keep all the baby children who go missing from getting out so they could be eaten by shapeshifting aliens—including the royal family and the Bushes. They're lizard people, shapeshifting lizard people.

If you're going for "all corporations suck" truism, then sure whatever. But no one's getting crunched, underpaid and fired for doing their job well in like IKEA. Game industry shows notably higher turnover rate than the general tech industry and that's just surface level. It's been a topic for more than a decade with tons of first hand accounts of exploitation.

More of a comment on stagnation in the industry than anything else, imo. MD is still on par with things being released today, both in terms of graphical fidelity and GaaS crap. What's really changed boomer shooters and the like?
