I've been replaying DXMD cause why not? I was doing the Neuroplasticity Calibrator quest, and as I'm sneaking around I toss a gas grenade into the huge crowd in the casino lobby, start looting the bodies, and... one of those guys was Otar. I remembered you're supposed to just walk in the front door and talk to him. He's not dead, but what does this affect?

I think he no longer calls you later.

I remember reloading a save after convincing him to give me the poo poo but with me taking his 'favors' and being like 'gently caress DA MOB AND THEIR FAVORS!' I broke in and just stole the thing via sneaking. You just don't get like two later quests about helping him replace the blonde poo poo brother or whoever.

Also DXMD is great. I just wish it was longer because really, it's fun.

It just had a terrible intro and most gamers are not insane DX fans that explore every drat vent or doing super slow sneaksie Thief ways of play, so the game's main quest seemed super short for them.

Tarvos and Palisade both feel like they could have easily been in the game.

The Pent House mission doesn't really fit, but it does fit in the overall alleged story line of the trilogy of games that Mankind Divided was originally supposed to be: that apparently Jensen is a clone with implanted memories, and the entire Criminal Past DLC was implanted to test his memory of it and whether or not he'd turn on supposed allies.

Just started Mankind Divided for the first time and I am dying laughing at paid DLC for Praxis and starting credits.

I laughed at the beginning of MD because Jenson must get so annoyed every time his augs reset because he literally can't do anything that he got used to. It happens like every game and DLC too.

If I had grown accustomed to jumping 10 feet straight into the air and poo poo I'd be pretty annoyed too.

I rather like both the beginning and end missions. The epilogue and abrupt ending do kind of suck though. Especially the hook for a sequel that's not coming any time soon. I just think reviews slammed the game a little harder than they might have due to lovely business decisions. There certainly are other things worth complaining about though.

Then there's the DLC. A Criminal Past is actually pretty good and worthy of being DLC since it's an entirely different setting, a stand alone story. The others less so. The Pritchard one is alright I guess, but the one where you sneak into the security company is incredibly short. It's kind of telling that you don't get the option to just play them as sidequests in the regular game.

Criminal Past is great especially since it takes away augs after getting used to them for so long playing the rest of MD.

I wish they would have made more of an effort of forcing a player to play without augs for it, as doing a no-aug playthrough is something any DX fan should attempt.

Criminal Past feels like a real DLC since it doesn't feel like something that was ripped out of the original game.

Actually, Criminal Past should have been the original intro the game since it didn't have augs really, unlike the actual intro where they let you have a bunch of augs and then rip them out after 5 minutes.

Real talk though: Criminal Past was an implanted memory, correct? We'll never know where they were going with this story, but it totally seems like the Adam Jensen in MD was a clone being prepped to kill someone and Criminal Past was an implanted memory to see whether or not he would justify killing the dude at the end? Plus, the whole quest that stays in your god drat log until the end about your implants not having Sarif's serial numbers on them or something.

Deus Ex HR and MD had amazing environmental design on their levels. It makes me sad when I see other games skimp on it, even if in MD it kind of made the actual amount of overworld feel small.

IF Prague had just been one of like four total locations all the same size as Prague, (ala Detroit/HK in HR), I think people wouldn't have complained as much. But then again, MD really felt like only half a game-- especially that ending.

Anyhow, I loved looking at all of the little poo poo inside the stuff thanks to the excellent interior environmental design/decoration. Adam's apartment is really well done and feels lived in, and yet it was so different from that random special ops general dude's apartment with the special secret closet that you break into once or twice.

Plus, when I saw one of Adam's two little lightsaber candlestick at his little dinky corner desk at work it was so endearing. Plus it made me think his coworkers are like "jeez what a dweeb" which is even more endearing.

edit - Man, I wish light diffused like that in real life because I'd fukken love a lightsaber candlestick. :sunglasses eyemod activate:

Deus Ex talk: the prison break DLC was pretty good for MD. Especially if you replay it without taking augs or such.

I miss Deus Ex. That self contained giant single map prison DLC of MD was almost perfection in the game— especially the lack of subway loading zones like those in Prague.

Much more enjoyable doing the prison no-augs imo

Def this.

The prison DLC is already really fun, but no-augs turns it into basically almost a Thief game. Which is a great thing.

Play the Prison one and never unlock your augs again and pretend that you're playing Thief and ENJOY

PrisonDLC being all one giant level with no load screens was like :hellzeah:

Then realizing it was probably the last Deus Ex content ever made for the next decade or more: :ohnoez:

Especially since the PrisonDLC's overall story is kind of inferring that you have implanted memories since you're obviously not the same Adam Jensen as in HR, as other story beats in the non-DLC game allude to.

Oh shiz I forgot about that commentary. Time to play the game again.

I guess I’ll finally just go full bloodshed for once instead of my normal Thiefsie style.

The Jensen Stories are just little self-contained scenarios, right? It'll be a while before I get back to this game.

As mentioned a lot, the DLC to MD is pretty good and the Prison level is nice and huge. Definitely try to do a second run through without augs, it turns the game into basically a Thief level.
