Seriously though, if you like getting Blu-Rays of movies that your friend's uncle would have had on VHS, and can deal with the occasional early 80's porn in 1080p, it's definitely worth biting that bullet.

I didn't realize the pre-order bundles included unannounced titles (at least I assume Liquid Sky hadn't been announced then since it was announced last month). May have to do that sometime.

It is fun to get a bunch of movies in the mail every month though :)

Ahh gotcha. I really liked their pre-order bundle option its a neat idea. I debated doing the October package for a bit. I might just get Demon Wind though.

Not that I know of. If they do discounted bundles on Arrow then I have been missing the gently caress out because I buy them individually and like 5+ at a time.

Has anyone bought the German restoration of Suspiria? I'm seriously debating looking for and buying that one along with the synapse version since the colorings look so different.

I've got this "problem" too, it's gotten bad enough that I've put a loose embargo on myself to not spend any money on more blurays unless it's a preorder of a movie in theatres (Alien Covenant, Wonder Woman) or a preorder on one of the Arrow/Shout Factory collector's editions.

I've been using the blu-ray.com app to keep track of which blus I've actually watched and which ones I still need to. I've also been "saving" all my horror movie purchases for October for Spooky Movie Month, so I've got a bunch of blurays that I haven't watched yet but I'm really looking forward to.

Yeah I have a big ol stack that's going to be like half of my October marathon views. I sort my movies at home by ones I've seen and ones I haven't though so I haven't resorted to tracking them on bluray.com just yet.

I think VS's October releases look pretty tight. Demon Wind, Blood Beat, Corpse Grinders, and Prime Evil w/ Lurkers thrown in. Tho looking at the details the only thing limited about them is going to be getting booklets with Demon Wind and slip covers for the other two. So not as exclusive as I originally thought.

Is there a good region-free 4k Blu-ray player? Or, I guess, a good, relatively cheap region-free non-4k Blu-ray player, on the theory I could just own two Blu-ray players?

I own this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00M0UC4K2/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Most the time I see Sony's get recommended for region free players, not sure if that's brand loyalty or actual quality differences though.

But I got it for like $100 a year or two ago. I assume there's a new model at a lower price, sadly I don't have any recc's on current one though. The one linked isn't 4k either, but I don't have a full 4k setup anyway so I don't mind. When I make the jump to 4k I'll "only" need a bluray player and an a/v receiver.

Even if you're watching in 1080p most of these remasters are completely worth it.

Thanks for the tip on a region free player, I've been considering getting one for a while now.

Dare I venture into the blu-ray.com forums to see what region free player they recommend? My criteria pretty much boil down to "movies look and sound as intended" and "cheap". I don't care about wifi, I have a half dozen other devices to handle that need.

I say go for it. As long as you're not diving into cover art, blu ray feature sets, and compression rates they tend to not be completely crazy.

I've been using their forums to track the niche distributor releases and those threads tend to be friendly and helpful.

Here's a site that sells region free players for U.S residents (might ship internationally)

http://www.220-electronics.com/region-free-blu-ray-players.html?dir=asc&order=price&price=89-150

e: after looking at that site a bit more (pulled it from the avsforums), you have to add region free in the purchase screen and it adds to the price. the 99 player with region free is about 140.

A lot of B level and below horror, but also a general variety of genres. Most of them also carry restored version of erotica flicks, which is super interesting to me, though I admit I haven't bought any. Debating getting SexWorld in the near future though.

e: links might be helpful:

They each have some interesting gems for purchase, and unlike Arrow most will be US region so no need to buy a regionfree player. Vinegar Syndrome does a really cool pre-order package deal that I haven't seen anywhere else. Severin has recently started this program where certain films/directors will have pins released with their blurays if you enjoy extra stuff. I pre-ordered the Devil's Honey from them to get the slip cover featuring a guy playing his sax into a woman's vagina and it also came with a Lucio Fulci pin. The first in the series.

No prob! Hope you find some must buys. Most of them are pretty small distributors, iirc. Severin's Devil's Honey release was delayed due to a manufacturing delay with the slip covers and when the person from Severin emailed me about it he said he was filling the orders on his own so it'd take an extra few days. Could have been an anomaly though.
