That's what they said way back when a lot of DVDs were sold in awful paper cases. "Think of the environment!" they said. Then they stopped making paper cases because people hate them, and for good reason. They're purposely going back to something that they know for a fact their customers hate. I hope this doesn't become a thing.

Yeah, I hate the paper cases too, but I think they were a bit more genuine about trying to be more "green". They had whole episodes based on it, and Al Gore's daughter works on the show. There was a special feature with Al Gore even talking up the "carbon neutral" boxes.

I don't expect that it is the same for other releases really though.

It's on Comedy Central, which is owned by Viacomm, which is owned by CBS, from what the Wikipedia articles linked me through. Originally the show was on Fox, but even then they had environmental issue episodes.

Quoting myself and another from the Bluray Deals thread. I figured someone here might be able to answer my question:

I've been seeing people talk about this movie a lot in the animated gif thread (due to all the practical effects). They say that there's two versions of the bluray, one that's great image quality and one that's crap. Or one that has special features and one that doesn't. Does anyone know which field this particular edition falls into?

So the consensus on the new Cowboy Bebop release is that it's really good, with the exception of a few CG shots that would have been expensive to re-do in HD.

Good, because I pre-ordered that long ago. I have the DVDs that were released way too dark. Almost anything was going to be an upgrade. Now I just hope they re-release the blurays (even quietly) just to fix the audio issues. Since I'm a drat heathen apparently because I like to listen to the show in English.

So I just ordered it like an hour or two ago. Should I let the order go through and hope for an adjustment, or should I try to cancel (it says it's already preparing for shipment), and try to reorder it?

EDIT: I just contacted their chat support, and they're going to apply a credit to my account for a future order. Since I'm going to buy a few more blurays today, that will work out. But I guess it's not automatic otherwise.

Not an hour, but it takes a while the way I do it. I rip the whole ISO because I want to keep the menus and everything that was on the disk (down to those annoying FBI warnings). I imagine it's about 20 minutes to rip and encode just the feature film using Handbrake.

^^ Yeah, I'm not trying to rip Blurays. It'll be a couple of years before hard drives can store full ISOs, and be affordable enough for my collection.

Forget that, Blurays aren't the worst. I'm ripping my DVD collection, and some of those are real bastards. Who remembers when shows came in all cardboard sleeves that folded up accordion style? If they didn't cut a slot for you to pull the disk out, then you're trying to fit your fingernails in the seams to try to get to the disk. Then you had to work the friction to pull the disk out. And you better hope no dust has worked its way into the sleeve to scratch the hell out of the disk.

I took my DVDs off the shelf a while ago. As we speak, I'm ripping them to ISO and putting them on Kodi. I imagine that when storage space is cheaper, then the blurays will also get ISO'ed and put there too. I love all the special features, but could care less about the actual inserting of disks.

I wish I could have seen that (without the 3D). The first Hobbit movie is what made me decide to limit what I see in theaters. Not because of the film itself, but more the quality of the image. Early on in the first film the camera flies around a large room with many tall skinny pillars. The motion blur was so choppy it was impossible to see anything or focus your eyes properly. I'm willing to be the extra framerate would help that issue.

Some other film after that had a blown speaker in the room, so any dialog that was played from behind made the actor sound like it was coming from a tin can.

Since then, I've been more likely to wait for a home release of a film, unless it is a Disney Marvel film, because I'm a manchild.

It may still work. I just went through my codes the other weekend and got my Toy Story 3-movie pack to redeem. However, you need to have the digital copy disk in the drive for iTunes to copy the movie from, it doesn't download it over the internet.

Also, I redeemed all of those Disney Movie Club codes, and got 60 bucks of merchandise for free. I am near enough points now to get a bluray for free. Some of the digital codes even work for the movie club as well. You get like 150-300 points per movie (counting Marvel films, so probably Star Wars too), and a good bluray is 2,000 points.

Then I joined the Disney Movie Club. :gonk:

You have to buy 5 movies at full price to finish off your contract, and then you can quit.

I joined when you got 5 movies for $5 total. So $30x5, and +$5, worked out to $155 total, plus shipping and taxes. Right now it's 4 movies for $1 total. Still a good deal.

(There's also a referral program if anyone wants to join. I'd get 2 free movies if someone does.)

And just to add, it's working out well for me because pre-orders count for your commitment as well. So Coco and Thor: Ragnorok count as 2 out of my 5 films to buy at full price, which I was going to do anyways since I was going to buy them when they came out anyways.
