from what I could gather of this description http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=8017033 the movies are not locked but the special features are, either that or US players don't play PAL format
it's probably cheaper too assuming you're in the US

I don't think it's anything new, on both accounts. He seemed pretty excited over it on a documentary made a couple decades after the original cut, and on the same documentary he sounded like a douche when arguing with the screenwriter, or producer, can't recall which

Is the original Ghost in The Shell avaiable in blu-ray, and how does it look? There is a redux version, but sounds similar to what Lucas did with the original trilogy.

It exists, I have it. It comes with both the 2.0 and original versions on the disc. The remix version has some interesting things going for it but IMO the transfer they did for the unchanged one looks great and should be the preferred version for anyone.

No English audio or subs, though.

MGM's edition is junk, though. The Italian edition has color timing pretty much spot-on with the 35mm restoration print.
drat, what a difference in colour, if only they had english audio.

I watched it a week ago and I don't recall any of this? Do you mean where they figure out Dallas is an android and he tries suffocating Ripley? That scene was terrifying and I think the effects work was fine?

And what do you mean her finding out what happened to the crew? Also was the sex scene in the original version or Extended cut? I swear to god I remember a sex scene somewhere when I watched it years ago, but it was absent from the Anthology version...

Right about when she starts the self-destruct sequence, Ripley stops along the way to find out that her old crew is all stickied to the walls, revealing some eating habits of the creature, and then she torches them all. To me, it ruins the urgency of the moment, just to show some neat little detail of the creature.

Being in Italy for a few months more, I was thinking of buying one of their bluray editions of Leone's westerns. Here's my two options:

A completely new restored version of A Fistfull of Dollars

As far as I know there's no PAL format in digital, and if there is then that's kinda dumb.

PAL generally denotes to 720x576 rather than 720x480 for SD digital with a framerate of 25fps. On HD it's not a problem for the resolution - the world standardised on 720 and 1080, but sadly insisted on 25fps/50hz being part of the standard, probably for backwards compatibility.

So anything that's shot for TV over here will most likely be 25fps, and some UK/EU/AU distributers have their logos and extras in 25fps too. The problem with this is it'll crash a lot of US players, because nobody learnt anything in the last 15 years sadly.

My Panasonic player is pretty great, although has something rattling around in it. I can play any region DVDs, any region BDs and I don't have to worry about frame rates.
That's seriously dumb, and defeats the purpose of a digital format. Not even our public broadcasts are in PAL anymore, or maybe they are!! *tinfoil*
