err posted:So I beat the game, how am I supposed to get $10k for the achievement when I have only $2.5k now and still need to buy all the houses/guns for 100%? Hunt bear, elk and buffalo and sell the stuff in Mexico. I haven't done the achievement yet, but I think it shouldn't take more than 2 or 3 hours depending on how lucky you get with the spawning and what your honor rating is (according to gamefaqs it influences prices).

Bradf0rd posted:It's a tree with a noose on it by rocks and it looks just like Hanging Rocks. My God are you stupid. What he means is that the last picture that shows the actual location looks like four, rather small and freestanding rocks, maybe man-height. And the map as a whole makes it look like these four rocks are some unspecified distance away from the rather large Hanging Rock. I had the same problem, and even after finding it I still think the last picture is not a good indication of the location at all.

Polite Tim posted:Quick question though, outside of dicking around, is the story-based gameplay worth actually purchasing a copy of the game for? (Short answer is probably yes) I'd say yes, but I also think that playing straight through the story you'd basically be missing the real game. Very subjective point of view, obviously. Polite Tim posted:Yeah, i generally do as much outside stuff as i can in a game (i.e platinumed AC2 etc), i think what i was trying to say was, would it be worth getting a copy myself or would just spending an afternoon at my mates shooting horses in the back of the head be roughly the same amount of enjoyment. I suppose the main benefit would be the online aspect, which i would probably love anyway. Just get it already. You know you want to anyway

Fists Up posted:I haven't played this much but I have horse related questions. The horse you last hitched is considered your horse until it dies or you hitch another one. You can ride and steal as many others as you want; when you whistle, your horse will come, it'll be there after fast traveling, after reloading, etc. If your last hitched horse is dead and you haven't hitched another one yet, a random level 2 horse will appear when you whistle. When you buy a deed, you can activate it from your inventory as often as you want and a horse of that type will immediately be saved as your last hitched horse. If your current horse is already of that type, the game will say so and nothing happens. That's all the deed does, putting a horse of a particular type in your "last hitched" spot. Edit: Away all Goats posted:I just beat the game and Maybe I skipped a few too many cutscenes but why did Ross come back to kill Marston? He paid his debt by finding/killing dutch and was just living peacefully on the farm. So why be a dick? (Endgame spoilers) Marston is a dangerous man of the old and uncivilized times, from Ross' point of view he needs to be dealt with just like any other member of Marston's old gang. There's no such thing as resocialisation. GhostDog fucked around with this message at 09:07 on May 30, 2010 |

doctor 7 posted:It is probably the poorest written part of the game because no real reason is given. There's tons to speculate on but if Ross really did want John dead he would have simply killed him and his family after Dutch was dead. Going after him later after allowing John to live his life makes no sense and deserves an explanation. I kinda agree, but I think the farm missions were really great. They build up a good sense of dread (because you know something has to be coming), allow you to bond with your videogame family and so on. The problem then of course is even if you do have a reason why Ross waited that long, how do you show it? A sudden shift of perspective and cutscenes of stuff that happens far away from him without his knowledge? Maybe there was some powerplay between people who thought John earned his new life and other people who thought he needs to be dealt with? I'm not a writer though, so some clever people probably could've (or should've) come up with a way.

ShowTime posted:Just watch Deadwood seasons 1-3. That's about the length of 20 westerns and is better. I never watched Deadwood, despite it being mentioned so often if the talk comes to great TV series (I love The Sopranos, The Wire, etc.) I started watching yesterday and I'm already 10 episodes in. I really had to pry myself away from it. Highly recommendable so far. GhostDog fucked around with this message at 22:22 on May 30, 2010 |

Anybody remember this old quote from an "insider source":quote:"It will take 5 million sales at full price to recoup the development costs of Red Dead. The good news is they [Rockstar] are not expecting to make money with Red Dead Redemption. At this point, that project is just supposed to prove that the San Diego studio can make a great quality AAA title." Well... quote:Rockstar parent company Take-Two Interactive announced today [June 8] as part of its strong second-quarter earnings report that the game has now sold more than 5 million units and is set to turn a profit in its first quarter on sale. Congrats, Rockstar.

I just walked along the river when I realized I have completely ignored water so far. So I waded around in it a bit, and the wetness effect is probably the best I've seen in a game so far. Not as excessively shiny as most games, and it goes only up to the where the waterline actually was. Nice dryout phase too. Kinda funny that they put so much effort into it considering you can't even swim. RDR2 (I guess/hope it's inevitable) better let me swim. More climbing abilities would be nice too. And better creature/hunting behaviour, deer and such should require you to sneak up on them. The more I think about it, the more I'd like to see some survival/Oregon Trail kinda game on this engine.

Trying to rack up the $5000 bounty without resorting to cheap tactics (i.e. keeping on the move, no hiding on roofs) proves to be a highly entertaining timewaster. Just now I tried in the Blackwater, and ended up in the bank, surrounded by tons of lawmen. Tried to make my way out and went down in a blaze of glory. I'm gonna rack up 10 hours of gametime with that alone, I just know it.

On this evening, I was crossing the Great Plains of the Northwest, when - on the top of a hill - there stood the last of the Buffalo. Silhouetted against the setting sun, the solitary animal appeared like a silent memento for this noble race of creatures that once roamed the plains in such great abundance. A tear ran down my dusty cheek, leaving a salty trail of regret, as I contemplated the perishability of all things living and beautiful. The big beast snuffled the grass, then turned to me with muscles the size of melons moving effortlessly beneath its shaggy hide. As our eyes met, I thought I could see a glimmer of recognition in its suprisingly peaceful eyes. For just one fleeting moment there was some kind of mutual understanding, that, yes, we are - in some way, through a link far in the past of this here earth - part of one and the same. Then I shot him between the eyes for five gamerscore.
