I was checking out an M5. The owner happened to run a specialty car shop. He was cool, and we chilled for an hour just talking cars. There were 2 Noble 400s, a GTO, and a Rossion. Some mental notes:
- very garage build mentality: weird variations between cars, very lazy wiring/routing
- the Duratec just can't cut it at the power levels they're trying. Hell, the GTO was getting a KA swapped in for better reliability (and power?).
- the 400 that was a track car had something go wrong at the last 3 track days it'd gone to, resulting in not being able to run the whole day.
The fact that there were 4 Nobles (not a terribly common car) all torn down in a small shop in Lawrence, MA said enough to me about their upkeep.

I can give you his contact info if you want to him him up for more details.

He did say that, when everything is working right, there's nothing like it in terms of power or sensation.

But that is what they actually are though - kits imported and then assembled individually by the owners? Also what KA swap? You mean the engine from an early 80s Nissan truck?

Question: Just how much abuse can the 2012 V6 transmission/clutch take? This is the first standard car I've ever driven and I'm kinda bouncing around and stalling...you know, newbie stuff.

Would it be a good idea to get the transmission oil flushed and changed after 1000 or so miles to clean up all the metal shaving my ineptitude has caused?

That's...not really how manual transmissions work. Unless you are doing really awful stuff like trying to jam it into gear without using the clutch, stalling has no effect on the trans.

At least they made the platform solid axle first so it will be easy to swap that poo poo out. Congrats, Ford. You finally did what people who will never buy a Mustang anyway always wanted you to do.

I read speculation that the area around the gas cap is covered up because changes to the hard points to accommodate the new suspension probably forced relocation of the fuel filler/gas tank.

A 90* V engine is suited for a Roots or screw type supercharger because you can put the supercharger in the valley of the V and package it very efficiently. 90* is the optimal configuration for a V8 so that's what V8s use and most supercharged cars are V8s. You can also do a 90* V6, which can also pack a supercharge nicely like the old GM 3800 engines, but a 90* V6 engine is rough without a balancer shaft, which saps a bit of power and is also kind of wide for a FWD transverse application, so almost no one makes a 90* V6 anymore. The sole exception today is VAG which still makes a 90* V6 for their longitudinal applications, and of course it was logical to slap a supercharger on it. Jaguar is also said to be putting out a supercharged V6 but no one has seen what it will look like yet.

Honda use to make a 90* C-series V6 for their larger cars and the NSX. Another advantage of the 90* engine was that they had a lower center of gravity and in front engine applications because they were flatter you could make the hood lower, hence all those 90s Hondas and Acuras with their wonderful low beltlines and open greenhouses. IIRC they didn't use balancer shafts either, but they never had any problems because they were 1990s Honda engines. Hondas use to be cool. :corsair:

Here's a thing on sales.

http://www.thedetroitbureau.com/2013/07/mustang-back-in-the-drivers-seat/#more-62545

Interestingly the Challenger is now running neck to neck with the Camaro, despite still being somewhat hampered by only having a 5 speed auto. The new 8 speeds apparently wont fit in the Challenger yet without some revisions and they probably won't be putting it in. They should really introduce a 6 speed manual for all the different trims/powertrains.

Feeling particularly chipper today? Here, have some bad opinions.

http://www.bmwblog.com/2014/12/01/gt350-shelby-throws-left-hook-m4/

quote:

Will it measure up to the lush ambience of a Porsche or Ferrari? No, most certainly not. Will it feel special and give the driver a proper cockpit? Yes – and it may have entered the same universe as BMW’s M4 interior – not likely as luxurious or premium, but at least competing on the same planet, maybe even the same continent.

quote:

I’m perplexed why Ford didn’t build an all-aluminum Ford Mustang, instead choosing to build an all-aluminium pickup truck (the new Ford F-150). Nobody cares about lightening up a pickup – in fact for towing and snow-plowing, most owners want a heavier truck.

quote:

The Ford badge doesn’t hail from Europe, but Ford’s global product line is now heavily influenced and developed by its European division. The GT350 has spent quality time lapping the Nurburgring with lofty European sports car targets in its cross hairs – and that should bode well for the final production car.

These are the people who drive BMWs.

Also when did Porsche ever make a flat plane V8?

How much did Shelbys cost new, $54k or so? $32k for an almost 10 year old car would mean an exceptionally low rateo f depreciation.
