Finishing up my Star Wars watchthrough and decided to follow up the blu-rays with Lego Star Wars: The Padawan Menace and holy poo poo, this thing is awesome! It occupies a higher place in my personal canon than the entirety of the prequel trilogy.

My college roommate apparently started reading Wookiepedia recently, as evidenced by the fact he sent me a text message that read: "BIGGS' COUSIN GAVIN hosed A BOTHAN!"

I'm pretty torn between really shattering his mind by telling him about Force Cthulhu, Force-sensitive Wampas (or any of the dozens of other things from the EU that are substantially worse) and letting him find all of that poo poo out on his own.

On that note, I vaguely remember reading in this thread a while back that Palpatine foresaw the Yuuzhan Vong invasion like 20 years in advance or something. Is that true? I hope that's not true.

I'm completely confused about the Sith. I thought there were only supposed to be 2 of them at a time? Yet the EU has stuff about Darth's Vader's apprentice, and there's a whole empire of them in the Old Republic.

Yeah, only two Sith is the official rule, but since they're evil, they've never quite had a problem with rule breaking. But yeah, there's a big difference between being a Sith and being affiliated with the Dark Side. In the Clone Wars microseries, for example, I'm pretty sure Asajj Ventress tells Dooku/Darth Tyranus that she's a Sith and he responds by laughing and telling her to shut her stupid mouth. I'm pretty sure Dooku has had at least 4 or 5 Dark Acolytes, but no official Apprentice, since he himself is the apprentice.

Anyone can be Force-sensitive, anyone can study the dark side, but in order to be a Sith, you have to have the Master/Apprentice relationship and take place in some stupid naming ceremony like the one in Revenge of the Sith.

Then again, I have no clue why Sith bother to take apprentices in the first place, since one of them almost always ends up killing the other.

Makes you think how ROTJ could have been a lot better if Lucas actually cared for Star Wars and instead of making a cheesy marketing grab with the Ewoks put a race of normally sized humanoid aliens in their place instead.

I'd be happier if he had just stayed with his original choice for Jedi, the Wookiees. I don't remember why he changed it anyway (Other than marketability, I would assume)

From io9's latest spoiler article, the live action series has a title and plot now.

quote:

Producer and longtime George Lucas collaborator Rick McCallum dropped some key hints about the long-planned live-action Star Wars TV show - the one that supposedly has 50 scripts already written and is just waiting for the costs of visual effects to drop before moving forward. McCallum revealed the show's working title is Star Wars: Underworld, it is indeed set between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, that "it's about that period when the Empire is trying to take things [over]", and that the show's primary focus will be on the criminal underbelly of the Star Wars universe. McCallum elaborates:

"It's underneath what's going on. It's the criminals and the gangs. The guys who are running Wall Street, basically. The guys who are running the United States."

On one hand, if it's anything like Cad Bane in the new Clone Wars series, it'll be awesome. On the other hand, expect a lot of heavy-handed, hamfisted metaphors for current events.

Lucas is just like anyone here would be if given some money and influence. They'd be a gigantic manchild who thinks they are cleverer and smarter than they are.

Well, that is true. I don't have any money or influence and I'm already a gigantic manchild who thinks I'm cleverer and smarter than I actually am.

I'll say 100 million at the box office. I think a lot of people will watch it just because it's Star Wars and it's 3D. Plus, I'm sure the "Stoners who love a 3D movie" demographic will be coming out in full force for this one.

Also, I just had an awful vision of Lucas releasing a statement in 2014, saying that the first three films didn't make enough money at the box office to warrant the OT being put out in theatres.

You're assuming TCW gives a poo poo about canon.

This is actually true. The Clone Wars TV series is a higher level of canon of the rest of the EU, so everything that came before it (except the most recent version of the 6 movies, deleted scenes that don't contradict the events of the movies and every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of George Lucas) can go straight to hell.

Reading about George's latest canon-clarifications about the Force or whatever else he decrees fills me with a sort of bemused pity as he single-handedly destroys his own creation, piece by piece.

What I'm really looking forward to is, I don't know, maybe 40 years after George kicks the bucket, someone out there in Hollywood is going to be like, "Let's reboot Star Wars". And then they will. I'm genuinely curious what it's going to look like. Whether they'll stick to George's "vision" or if they'll tear it down and rebuild it into something better.

I'm really hoping that the series continues Star Trek-style after Lucas' death, with a potential new trilogy being the Deep Space Nine of Star Wars. (In that Gene Roddenberry would have hated DS9, but it is objectively the best Star Trek series.)

Tomorrow sounds like a good day to start my next major Star Wars marathon. This time, I'll watch every Star Wars production, in order of internal chronology (and then in order of release, when the timeline is unclear [Specifically, The Clone Wars]).

Which, I assume would be the following (Please correct me if I'm wrong):

Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace
Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones
Star Wars: Clone Wars (Tartakovsky series)
Star Wars: The Clone Wars film
Star Wars: The Clone Wars series
Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
Star Wars: Droids
Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope
Star Wars Holiday Special
Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back
Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure
Ewoks: The Battle for Endor
Star Wars: Ewoks
Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi

I will, of course, be watching the original unmodified theatrical releases of the OT because anything else would be heresy. Also, I haven't bought the Blu-Rays yet.
