This thread is delightful torture because I grew up in a place in Alaska where pretty much every dog seemed like a husky/sled dog mix. And now I want a shiba too. Little mini shiba dogsled team. :neckbeard:

The thing I've always loved about primitive breeds that I've been around (mostly sled dogs) is how they can go from "I am the most regal" to "durrr" in the space of like five seconds. He looks so PROUD of the beeping.

This is so, so true. When I worked with huskies back home this was the primary characteristic. They lived such, such hard lives and if they didn't get what they wanted they were going to DIE.

86 aging working huskies I don't know tons about sled dog-type huskies, but this seems terribly sad. Where are they going to go?

I worked back home in Alaska to try to get sled dogs to the point where they could be pets when lovely mushers just left them at the pound; generally if they're just coming off the dog lot they are not at all the sort of dog that the average person could handle as a pet. If they don't go to other lots or if there's not a fairly concentrated rehabilitation effort and they go to a normal animal shelter, I'd say the prospects are fairly grim :smith:
