Are there any other flat 2D action RPGs like Odin Sphere? I'm 2 hours in, and I'm wondering if the combat gets any deeper.

Crowetron posted:I remember reading the manual for FF7 way back in the day before playing it for the first time, and I spent the whole game waiting for a puzzle where I needed to know Cloud's blood type for some reason. Most players miss the blood transfusion mini-game. The CPR one was weird enough.

Meowywitch posted:I wonder what it was like to bring chrono trigger home for the first time $80 at toys R us at launch - but it’s a new square game so also “Hell yeah I’m in high school I can get some spending money and it’s not a big deal.” I remember being impressed by the time travel animation. There was definitely a sense of “there’s life in the old SNES yet. Going back to grid based FF6 felt really flat and sad. Magus theme hits as hard as it always did. I remember the “Do you want to fight me?” - killing Magus and actually just completing the game without him. Then on a replay “…. No” and being a little freaked out at him joining your party. It’s like “Kefka joined your party!” Still, Yoshi’s Island was the game to RUN back home to after school.
