ReverendFingers posted:Drum stuff Working more with the velocity of the hits (and the relative normal volumes of each element) and having effects chains that subtly change goes pretty far, I'm only on my laptop so I can't give detailed advice... Unlatched effects and riding in sends, feeding bits into a bus with saturation so it blends together and kind of modulates the interaction of stuff, something I love to do is have a reverb on a send and then process the reverb so its no longer a room space but a weird wash of noise, layer elements either to strengthen the sound or create variety/reduce staticness, all worth playing with. Disclaimer: My drums aren't anything special, and I go for hiphop style drums which aren't exactly live sounding. Anyway have a music. https://soundcloud.com/aneurythm/aneurythm-blanket-forthcoming

The idea was to make a track that sounded like a live recording of bar room jazz from the 50s, pressed to a terrible quality 7". The organ is sampled but the rest is all simulacra from multisamples (+live guitar and vox) Working title was : Free Jazz? No! I really enjoyed that. The horns sitting in the back made it for me i think. They complement/strengthen the other instrumentation + voice beautifully. Heres a track I did, nice to write something that isnt just a piano piece which is all Ive been writing lately. https://soundcloud.com/bentwingascent/thirty-six-shifts

I love concepts like that! Its quite catchy in an un-memorable way (I mean that in the best way possible) and I dig the crescendo/uncrescendo ending Heres a direct-to-acetate recording found in the basement of a former jazz club, Tired Jimmy Bones and the house band giving it their some https://soundcloud.com/bentwingascent/bb-brokenwing-ft-jimmy-bones
