After quite a few years of procrastinating and being ill, I've finally managed to set up a workable home studio (Keystation Pro 88, Edirol UA5, Cubase, NI Big Piano). I did a quick 5 min impro to test everything out: http://soundcloud.com/stuwyatt/first-attempt I have to limit my playing to 10 min snippets every few hours/days, but I now have the ability to record everything, and to slowly build up full orchestral performances. It's been quite a few years since I posted in Musician's Lounge, mostly because I didn't have a suitable studio computer and because I no longer have the health to perform live anymore. This past week, I managed to save enough money to get a 2nd hand Lenovo X230 laptop, and subscribed to EW's ComposerCloud (which is loving amazing). I've also had a steep learning curve getting to know Cubase 9.5 Everything started falling into place tonight, and I wrote this this evening. I don't know what genre of music I would label this as, as I've never recorded anything like this before. It's still a work in progress, and roughly mixed with no mastering. https://soundcloud.com/stuwyatt/dark

I changed my recording techniques a few days ago, and ditched click tracks altogether. I now use cubase like an old fashioned reel-to-reel. I've also just received an 88 key keyboard controller, meaning I can finally ditch the microkey. I'm doing quick snapshots of ideas, and getting to know EW's & Uyanga Bold's new Voices of the Empire library. This is my first single-take piano and voice impro using the new keyboard. https://clyp.it/xydprsbh

I borrowed a bit of money and built an ultimate live looping rig for my illness (chronic CFS/ME). Something lightweight to play, easy to use, and set up in such a way that I don't have to look at a computer screen. I've set up the studio so it records everything in OBS, and I would have multi-cam, but my CPU was struggling under the load. Tonight was the first time I plugged it all in and switched it on in its new configured setup. It's a Swissonic 88 key light action keyboard, as well as a 61 and 37 key korg microkey. I have an Akai MPD218 to trigger percussion, and control the VST's using the korg microkontrol2, and cubase AI as the DAW. The looping is done via a BOSS RC-505, and I've also decided to splash out on a Line6 variax guitar and a FirehawkFX effects unit. The looping is all controlled with a Behringher FC1010 foot pedal with a Uno 1.0.4 ROM upgrade thingy. 80% of it now works with the looper. A snippet of tonight's sound check - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFuG9dop2jE I'm documenting the project on a facebook group if this is anyone's cup of tea.

Drink-Mix Man posted:That was enjoyable ambience and gave me some ideas for how to approach more live looping, which I don't do much, so thanks! The solo female was EastWest's 'Voices of the Empire' featuring the incredible voice of Úyanga Bold, using the oooh legato patch. The male voices are EastWest's Hollywood Choirs on the male choir wordbuilder patch with some random German phrase. Both are included with the amazing ComposerCloud monthly deal. fuctifino fucked around with this message at 15:49 on Oct 13, 2018 |

Best friend: Hey, want to compose and record the backing track for a final-step healing song about my brother raping me as a child? Me: ... After a year of many pauses and breaks (for obvious reasons), the track was finished today. I used EastWest's composer cloud library, and wanted to create the sound of a small acoustic string quartet with a grand piano. This is the only collaboration that I've taken part in for many years. It was hard work, but I'm glad I did it. Trigger Warning: Watch at your own peril https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KvnMoHz2mX8

I've been mucking around lately just getting high and jamming classical impros with Pianoteq with a microkey 61 on my lap. I had the intention of recording stuff, but every time I tried to record, it just didn't work out - the magic stopped. So I was amazed to discover the other day that Pianoteq has automatically recorded every loving note I've ever played on it since I installed it on this machine. I'm slowly going through the impros, but a few of them have some interesting ideas in them, i.e. this one I found tonight I'll slowly upload more as I find them to https://soundcloud.com/stuwyatt fuctifino fucked around with this message at 22:32 on Apr 25, 2022 |
