Maybe I'm just too into the status quo, but I couldn't see myself seriously getting into any of these apps until there was a way to get audio and synchronization in and out of them. Audio is probably not too hard but I highly doubt that if there's a MIDI interface for iPad, that most of these programs support MTC or MIDI clock.

Apparently we get a big IOS update tomorrow that should give us MIDI over wifi.. whatever that entails.

The MS 20 is ridiculously good. Same goes for the iElectribe. Sucks that all of us that bought ReBirth a few months back (after the iPad release) only to have a bigger version put out with no update rebate. Bleh.

No iPad resolution? I'm confused.

Rebirth is nice, cheap and way rad if you are into 808/909.

iElectribe will let you tweak sounds much, much more.

Both let you do multiple patterns.

Horizon Synth is out, and looks killer. Analog modeled and very, very well laid out. Hypersaws as well.

As near as I can tell, iPhone/iPod development for music apps has pretty much stopped.

Looks like I'll be sticking with my lovely NanoStudio.

I feel like the pressure sensitivity is all hosed up on the app. Most of the time it won't input notes unless I hang on the press a bit longer.

My rabbits are all freaking out at your song. They like blippy synth noises. Its weird.

Try Sunrizer (formerly Horizon). Its by far the most fully functional synth available for iPad.

Can anyone tell me which MIDI interface is leaning towards 'the most useful' lately? I've been reading up on Genome (http://createdigitalmusic.com/2011/08/full-featured-genome-midi-sequencer-for-ipad-and-a-chat-with-its-creator/#comments) and its just amazing.

I really think it's the next evolution of iOS apps. Sketch a bit here and there, then cloud that poo poo to your DAW to finish it up.

Desperately waiting for Horizon/sunrizer to do this...

MOOG is putting out 'Animoog' for iOS tomorrow.

'The First Professional Synth for the iPad' is a pretty big statement- but you know MOOG can back that up. (I hope this doesn't require an iPad 2).

Looks like TableTop is turning into the quasi DAW king of IOS? That's actually a promising path... Imagine being able to run Horizon, etc, in the middle of the Tabletop environment... Cool.

magiccarpet
Jan 3, 2005

I was pretty down on Tabletop as well.. When it was released I could do virtually everything with it that I could do with ReBirth. The extra instruments didn't seem very appealing. But now, with (what I expect to be) quality instruments being introduced... Kind of cool. It's a solid base to work from, and now you know you'll be getting solid in-app purchases as opposed to in-house effect boxes.

I've got it. Setup isn't too hard (on a Mac) and I've played with some templates. You'll need to spend an afternoon or two to get it customized enough to do real work with it.

Still loving pricey.

What's the consensus on Lemur? I've been eyeing it for a long time, but there are like no ratings and no reviews on the app store. Which is odd for a $50 app that is reportedly the best way to control Ableton, hands down.

Has anybody tried it with Live? I'm considering pulling the trigger because it's 50% off right now but have no idea what I'd be purchasing really. I already own Touchable and the newest updates really improved the app, though I don't use it that often. Is the upgrade to Lemur worth it?

Lemur is pretty great. You can do very simple things very quickly - creating some standard midi buttons and faders, poo poo like that. However, anything beyond that gets into scripting. The documentation, to me at least, reads like a medical textbook. Usually I'd just pop to YouTube to find some tutorials but those are also limited as the price keeps a lot of people away. You can dig into old Jazz Mutant forums (the company that originally made the hardware Lemur) but thats like jumping into a time machine to the dark ages of the internet. The best way to learn it is to download pre-created layouts (http://liine.net/en/community/user-library/) and reverse engineer them.

The learning curve is incredibly steep but if you can get your head around it, Lemur is awesome. Plus you look cool dicking with it. https://vimeo.com/4092372

Dubspot has one of the better overviews of the setup and basic fader control. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ouTLi5SmMuw
