Is it normal for the nights in Project Reality to suddenly become super mega dark, as in complete pitch black darkness?

Cream-of-Plenty posted:That's what happened when I was using it. I think the author is planning to introduce the ability to control darkness settings somewhere down the line. Incidentally my save was during one of those nights when I updated to version 3. The nights are dark but not pitch black anymore. So I guess this new version fixes whatever that was.

I ended it up switching it off because it was eating my performance. To be fair I have ini edited for better graphics and poo poo. Also some people have (what I assume to be) a bug where the darker nights are ridiculously impossibly super dark. It hasn't happened for me since I updated to the latest version recently but someone else here mentioned it.

Seashell Salesman posted:As someone said above, normally if you have 20DT and get hit with 20 damage you still take 4 damage or something. If you set it to 0% in PN then you take 0 damage. Makes more heavily armored enemies tougher and I think it makes combat "feel" better. How would you deal with bugs and stuff early on? I always end up whacking them to death slowly because of their high DT

I feel the best way to add challenge to Fallout 3 and New Vegas is just by upping weapon damage universally. Yeah, people die in only a few shots but by the end of my vanilla run they were doing that anyway. It's tougher to balance in New Vegas because of DT though. I've been using PV's default settings in this and I feel like combat is definitely more dangerous and requires more thinking, at least early on. I also get a lot of my challenge from the Monster Mod which so far (almost to Nipton) adds some pretty horrifying poo poo that doesn't really seem out of place.

I have PN installed and the skill modifier set to default, is this good enough or do you guys recommend anything that makes the combat more fun? While not directly related to what you're asking, I've been messing around with the Monster Mod lately and it has definitely made combat quite a bit more exciting, due to not knowing what you'll find next. This is most definitely not for the faint of heart (especially for arachnophobes )

Brace posted:Are they balanced? Honestly I don't know. I'm on a new game, around level 10, using the vanilla PN settings just like you. I've noticed the new monsters are definitely more powerful than other stuff that's around, but I deal with them much like I deal with scorpions, punching and backpedaling. Considering how godlike you are by the end of New Vegas (haven't played the DLC yet) I kinda appreciate the challenge.

Maybe a dumb suggestion but maybe running as administrator? I've recently gotten back into New Vegas and I always run the game from the FOMM if that matters. And yes, it bolds every .esm. If you are running only Project Reality I don't think you need the script extender. If you don't have MCM it just gives you an item under the AID listing that lets you change some basic settings, although I personally don't think there's really any settings that need changing. It's pretty great right out of the box. Also I'm not sure what you guys mean by 'installing' NVSE. I just unzipped to my New Vegas directory. It's kinda both. It lowers exp gain pretty significantly and makes certain items harder to find. I don't think it's responsible for your issue though. I think 4 might be a little too low for the Novac area though, I was around 9 by the time I made it there. I'm also using Cirosans Classic Overhaul so our experiences may be slightly different. Speaking of the wonderful Cirosans Classic Overhaul, something is up with that web page. It appears to be an earlier version posted up there and the download link doesn't work. In the meantime I've hosted the most recent version (1.21)here and the JSawyer compatibility patch here.

I don't think it's CCO. I'm running a PN/CCO/Jsawyer setup and my experience is not like you are describing it. Did you enable the PN Rebalance mod? Cause you shouldn't do that. Is JSawyer last on your load list? Did you make sure and use the dozens of CCO compatibility esps? I'm not an expert in these things but feel free to post a load order and I can compare it to what I'm doing. As far as I know, you're not going to find a mod that makes everything die fast. I'm also not sure why your skills are going past 100 unless it's just a random leftover point from you tagging it. Early on, I used the Varmint Rifle for pretty much everything, with a bit of 9mm when things got close. Then I got the cowboy repeater and pretty much used just that until I moved on to the hunting rifle. I barely used VATS at all until I got perks to help it out, I mainly used bullet time because that poo poo is baller as hell. One weird tip is to pick up the spiked knuckles from a safe inside the Primm casino. These things absolutely tear up anything at low levels regardless of whether or not you have skill in unarmed. I used to be like you. Modding the gently caress out of New Vegas to no end. Perusing New Vegas Nexus so much that the FBI were probably putting me on their watch list. Basically I ended up breaking more things than I fixed, and realized that most New Vegas modders probably don't really know what the gently caress they were doing. I realized this when I tried the Monster Mod, a terrible terrible mod that claims to be a successor to Mart's Mutant Mod from Fallout 3. It adds a lot of really lovely out of place bullet sponge monsters that basically suck all kinds of balls. Then I realized that New Vegas is an excellent game by itself, and didn't require a whole lot of mods to improve. One day you shall realize the same. Keep it simple.

Cream-of-Plenty posted:The problem I have with compressed skill sets is that, at the end of the day, a lot of builds end up looking almost identical, and the concept of making a character becomes illusory. By some sort of miracle, Skyrim compensated for a significant reduction in skills by creating perk trees that corresponded with the skills, and it was impossible to dominate every perk tree (or get anywhere near it.) FO3 and NV, on the other hand, have a lot of perks that are borderline useless, and do little to help build a compelling or novel character. All of these ideas are pretty much wonderful. I also like the idea of survival being tied to something other than useless cooking. Even on hardcore with jsawyer.esp, you honestly only need to get survival high enough to make gecko steaks (25? 30?) and you have enough food to last you the entire rest of the game. I always had more gecko steaks. Captain Walker posted:In his unfinished RPG, rope kid always seemed to favor separating Speech into persuasion (diplomacy/intimidate) and deception (gambling/bluff). The only reason not to do this--and it's a big one--is that convincing everything to kill itself is a big part of fallout and you'd need to build away from combat with two social skills. Which could easily work, but not every chump would be able to do both and Personally I like it when RPGs have only one speech related skill. This is because I will be maxing out whatever speech related skills there are. I really enjoy speech/skill checks for some reason. Everyone was super excited when NV first came out because there was a sneak check in Goodsprings, but after that I think it was pretty standard stuff. Having your build be acknowledged by others is awesome I think. I also liked the little touch of having your dialogue be different if you have enough skill to pass the check. So I've decided to go balls deep into this Convergence thing. I decided gently caress it, I already beat this game before, might as well change it up. The sad thing was on my last playthrough my game got too unstable about 3/4 of the way through OWB and I had to stop. It has rooms for all the companions and when you dismiss them it sends them to their respective rooms. Getting that, Lombard, and Underground Hideout. I am going to hoard everything.

I recently went on a mod binge and I would suggest using FOMM over MO. My install is a shitload of mods held together by spit and tape but everything appears to be working. Somehow the idea that the mod manager was made specifically for Fallout puts me more at ease. Most Nexus pages are referencing FOMM as well. Conversely, MO works great for Skyrim.

To clarify the above post, the mod you are looking for is called Convergence. The instructions are pretty easy to follow. I installed Stages 1 and 2 without problems using Fallout Mod Manager (aka FOMM). I didn't install A World of Pain cause I heard it was stupid. Also note there is a compatibility patch for jsawyer.esp which you should absolutely be using. Also on my list of things you should have is Lombard Station, an awesome goon-made player home. I highly recommend Increased Wasteland Spawns (IWS) if this is a second playthrough because drat it owns. Must haves to maintain game stability: CASM and NVAC. Trust me when I say you want these.

Have I mentioned I love Increased Wasteland Spawns? I'm still early-game but it's just wonderful. My biggest issue with New Vegas (and especially Fallout 3) up to this point is that it is just too easy. With proper hoarding you can become a walking arsenal in no time. I've tried difficulty mods and jacking it up to Very Hard but usually this just results in bullet sponges which is no fun. I never would have expected the solution to this problem would be just more spawns. Suddenly I'm actually using all of this ammo I am hoarding. I have to use different weapons because I can't keep my poo poo repaired often enough. I've decided to wait before pissing off the Powder Gangers because the desert is loving crawling with them, when usually I would just immediately raid the prison. Before I could sneak north of Goodsprings without too much hassle but now it's basically not even an option. I love how it's forcing me to change up my strategies. I'm also playing with No Healing from Food for the first time just to make it even harder. It's a good thing you find a Recharger Rifle early on because you probably won't have enough ammo to kill everything you run across. I never bothered with Energy Weapons before but now I kinda have to because I'm actually running low on bullets. I'm using EVE and this laser pistol has an animated crosshair and it's just gorgeous. The way enemies explode into piles of ash is a sight to behold. tl;dr: New Vegas loving owns.
