Cream-of-Plenty posted:Depends. Are the CTDs really, really regular? If so, it could be your game running out of RAM. Do you use any texture packs (like NMC's texture packs)? Also, do you use a 4GB enabler? If not, you should be, especially with a load order that long. Yes to all, but I'm using the standard texture size one, since I'm playing on my TV at 720p anyway. Cream-of-Plenty posted:EDIT: BetterGamePerformanceV4 can increase the tendency for your game to CTD during cell transitions, by the way. I'll try to trash that one if it persists. It started becoming much more frequent as I progressed in the game (first-timer here), but running a bashed patch made it stable for the past two hours or so. On that note, in my first bashing attempt I didn't know what the hell I was doing so I just included everything. The game ran for like two minutes, but during that the environmental sounds such as wind and footsteps were suddenly much louder—in fact, I don't think I ever realised that there were footsteps in the game before. Weird. Beaumont posted:Truth be told, it's probably just because you have an insane amount of mods. Figure out which ones are really essential to your game because that list really could use some thinning out. Well, a lot of them are compatibility patches and it is a Gamebryo game, although granted it's not by Bethesda, so there's no dire need to compensate. Goddamn the Bounties mods own. The voice-acting is pretty good throughout and it's just really well done. I went after the Mongol Kid as the first one, got caught in an ambush and killed immediately. Then I tried it again, only placing a few frag mines first and then taking cover in a camper. Had an intense, five-minute firefight with the bastards, machine-gun fire ricocheting off of the camper the whole time, ducking in and out to throw grenades, standing up and picking them off with headshots from the window with my trusty Garand. Awesome.Forumpost posted:Are there any working mods to increase the difficulty of the game without radically changing things? Anybody have an idiot's guide to bashed patches? My game has become pretty unstable all of a sudden, now that I've done the circuit towards the Strip and am doing Camp McCarran quests. I've followed load order directions for all mods and used the correct compatibility patches, and until now I've played for over four hours at a time with the same mods and load order without a single crash, so I figure it's something in the bashed patch that isn't playing nice. I though I was doing it correctly, but I guess not.

I'm getting my friend the UE for his birthday. He also refuses to use mods on his first playthrough, because, as he says, the game should be able to stand on its own. What he hated about FO3, when he played it, was shooting a raider in the face several times to little effect. But I'm thinking I might be able to sell him on jsawyer.esp as a kind of "(un)official patch." Does it make combat significantly deadlier from the get-go?

Thing is, he's stubborn as hell and has a tendency to give up on games that aren't "right" without mods, and I want him to like this one.

My game crashes when I take out a Mr. Gutsy in the OWB medical facility. Any ideas as to what might be causing this? I suspect it could be EVE, but I don't have my load order on hand right now - it should be correct, anyhow. My game also crashes when I pick up implants. Those are added by PN, aren't they? Mr E posted:I don't know about the implants, but I always had crashing problems when something exploded, like a robot or grenade, when I tried out EVE, so that's probably it. Implants are added by PN, but I'm not sure what could be causing the crash. Okay, I'll get rid of EVE, then, see if that helps. The weird thing is, I didn't have trouble with the implants for a long time, it was only when I tried to pick one up in HH that it resulted in an instant crash. I can't imagine what would be causing it, either, I don't think any of my other mods even touch that functionality.

thehumandignity posted:Couldn't it be done by making, like, additional, weightless items marked as apparel that use the models of in-game weapons? Sure, but you'd have to make separate ones for every single gun and they'd replace each other unless you made variants for each equipment slot, in which case the meshes have to be re-aligned to avoid clipping, and that's not even accounting for clipping with different types of armour and clothing or new weapons added by mods, nor the additional dress-up armour pieces added by mods like Tailor Maid. It would be an insane amount of work for comparatively little payoff.
