Ikea sells a decent ceramic honing rod for only $9 (in Canada).

Has anyone used "Sabatier" knives? I've been looking to buy a new Chef's Knife for my mom and this one caught my eye and is in my price range.

Can anyone recommend a good online store for buying knives to ship to Canada? Any recommendations on stores in the Toronto Queen West area would be great too. I'm not looking at super high end, but something in the $60-100 range for a gift. I've already checked out Amazon, Kitchen Stuff Plus and Sliceandsear.com.

Does anyone know where I can find a cutlery drawer tray that'll fit in a drawer that's 8.5 inches wide? the smallest I can find is 9.5 and my apartment has small drawers.

Product description says 3.6 inches wide at one point, and 4.25 inches somewhere else. Check the length of your drawers though. Maybe you can even buy two and stick them both in

Thanks, but what I meant was something like this for flatware, not a knife storage tray.

I've got the cheaper thermoworks model (RT600c) and I love it. The readout time is perfectly fine and it has the same thin tip and comparable accuracy to the Thermapen. Plus it's only $19

Jesus those handles.

Vollrath has a tri-ply set I assume it is as good as their commercial products. i.e. fan-loving-tastic.

And this is the only goddamn skillet/saute anyone should ever need. Buy one of each size, marvel at your cooking prowess!

How is carbon steel vs cast iron? Any major differences or points of preference?

Is there a great cookbook for beginners? I'm looking for something like a textbook for learning how to cook. Photos, techniques, tips and recipes to help practice. Does such a thing exist?
