I've been browsing online for how much copies of DQ5 sell for. And I keep coming across: "Warning: This game only works for the DS and DS Lite. It will not work with the DSi."

This is people trying to sell a pirated copy, right?

Yes. Pretty sure you can't run a pirate cart on it with default firmware.

I have DQ3 questions. I played it eons ago on NES and had fun but now i'm playing the remake on my android phone and I'm wondering about a few things.

1) Books change personality but it's listed as a 'temporary' change. How long does the personality change last?
2) I want to get two sages in my party, but I don't want to level a Jester through the main quest until Dharma. I'm going to use the zen scroll for my Pilgrim to become a Sage. Assuming I have a Wizard in my party until Dharma, would it be better to recruit a brand new Jester and level him to 20 or would it be better to class change my Wizard to Jester, and then Jester to Sage? Would either way be faster than the other?
3) Are there any unique, interesting, or special items that only a thief can get? In what situation would I want to have a Thief instead of a soldier or Fighter?

1. Unless they changed something in the Android version, books are permanent unless you use a different book or equip an item to change personality (the item-based changes ARE temporary; only while the item is equipped).
2. Wouldn't make a difference unless you wanted to change the personality of your party member while changing the class. Like if you wanted Sexy on them instead of ___, since you're limited on items to change to that it might work best to make one from scratch. Otherwise the only difference is your Wizard>Jester>Sage would have your old Wizard spells during the Jester and early Sage levels, while your fresh Jester would not.
3. I don't think there are any Thief-only stolen items, but the spells they have are really nice throughout the game for finding medals and making sure you aren't missing chests. Any extra equipment, even if it's nothing amazing, is at least money in the bank, and you eventually start getting stat seeds from it later on.

Priest to Sage with the Book from the tower north of Dharma is your best option, then you can rock the end game team of Hero/Warrior/Sage/Sage

I usually start my Warrior as a Thief to get their spells, just so I don't have to look up medal locations when I would otherwise miss some.

Is there any reason for me not to spend all these preorder skill seeds or whatever on the hero as soon as the option becomes available to me?

You come up a point or two short of getting dual wield or Thunder Thrust on another character?

Any advice on how to build out Jade? I just picked her up and I'm starting to feel like I should maybe respec all the points she already had spent and focus in another direction (like maybe spears).

Spears are good for her. Thunder/Lightning Thrust are good for metal monster killing and Multithrust is an awesome boss killer. I kept points in her other skills, though. The Spear AOE isn't as good as her Allure option which is supposed to scale off Charm (which she'll have lots of), and the Fisticuffs tree gives you some good general purpose damage skills and boosts Spear damage.

Started again with stronger monsters after reading everyone's opinion, thank you.

Are items in my item bag (slimedrop\lambswool\toad oil) safe to sell if they dont have an effect in the description or are they used in crafting later?

Used in crafting, except for some coins which drop rarely.

I'm only about 20 hours in and just recently found the Casino in Puerto Valor. Is there a faster way to get to the 150K tokens I need for the good sword and spear than just spamming slots?

Double or nothing on the poker table, but Slime Quest is pretty fast anyway. Probably don't worry about those though. You get better things to use the tokens on later, plus more profitable options for gambling.

I havn't tried a thief yet, but if I were to guess, they're not going to be designed to carry a party. Just eyeing the wiki page, their skill set and weapon selections are mostly support.

The Thief can use some of the same weapons as the Fighter can, but likely doesn't have the Fighter's bonus critical effect.

So yeah, you either use the new multi-target weapons that were intended for this new class, Or you can pretend to be a Fighter.

I'm pretty sure the fighter's stat growth except for luck is better too. I usually keep the thief until I've got all its abilities since it means you don't have to keep a walkthrough on hand for medal hunting, then switch it to something better

Speaking of being at the abbey, should i be looking up the vocations, unlocks, etc? Am i fine just giving everyone whatever job strikes my whims or will i get punished if i don't optimise?

There is a point later where one of your characters is removed from your group for a stretch of time, so don't make any one of them completely indispensible. Get a little role redundancy planned.

Not really, unless you want the shittier parts of the ~experience~. There's a reason they don't make 'em like they used to.

I probably posted it in this thread but I didn't trust Sylv at first. I figured he was actually a criminal setting the hero up for more trouble

Nope. Dude actually just has a boat. And is there to save the day and be cool and powerful and rad.

I will say I didn't like his intermission chapter, but I didn't like anyone's intermission chapter

Rab's isn't bad, but all the rest either are unnecessary padding or actively ruin what is otherwise a great reveal later in the game in the original version. And Rab's isn't good enough to make up for that.
