Apologies if anyone here hasn't been able to download this week's Smart Wrestling Fan, Podbean is the worst and has been down all day. Here's a link.

Smart Wrestling Fan this week has an interview with Bobby Lashley. Find out if he's the January 2nd returnee! But more importantly I continue to review Midcard Mafia.

Cardboard Box posted:Up until now the only wrestling podcasts I've been listening to in recent months have been on WON/F4W. Tonight, I decided to change it up and listened to a couple episodes of LAW and Smart Wrestling Fan. Very enjoyable so far. LAW doesn't seem particularly hilarious or informative but the two guys are cool and seem like very down-to-earth wrestling fans, and SWF (which I'm listening to right now) is incredibly fun. Thanks for expanding my horizons once again, PSP. Yay! New end-of-year SWFy award show is up, by the way, with the next chapters of the great epic, 'From Under The Bed'. If you haven't heard the previous chapters of that, here's the first.

Cardboard Box posted:Bryan and Vinny saying TNA comes off more bush league than Portland Wrestling (which was Oregon's main indy promotion) made me laugh. Generally we don't have many back episodes up for space reasons. We have pretty high-quality, long shows and get a reasonable number of downloads so we can't really afford to have them all up. Episodes from 200 and back are up on our website for free though and ones after that (most recently #230) are uploaded on Extra. But yeah it's an annoying thing that we have to do.

I think in an attempt to one-up last year when we had the actual WrestleMania card leaked to us, Joe went crazy to predict this year's WM on this week's SWF. It sure was something.

Avenging_Mikon posted:Listened to the Smart Wrestling Fan podcast for the first time last week, and I gotta say, I enjoyed it. Gotta break up the listening over a few days, but that's okay. Was well worth the time investment. Yay! Thanks. Yeah, when I was a listener, I always broke it up into bits and pieces over the week. We're not really trying to be a bastion of journalism and breaking news, luckily. WoodrowSkillson posted:On the topic of SWF, Dshban, are your co-hosts completely incapable of thinking, or are they just pretending to be stupid? Joe seems to have no concept of how to structure an argument, and he is even worse at understanding anything you say. It is getting exceedingly annoying to listen to him ramble on about the Rock when he then has no idea what he is talking about. Does he just not understand the concept of a metaphor? Joe's arguments are odd sometimes, certainly. I often feel as frustrated as you must. I don't know what's going on there. Larry I understand because he does drink quite a bit during the show so by Raw he's repeating himself and stumbling over things - but then I get to be the grammar nazi, which is fun. And Baddie is good, as they say. He's doing a lot of poetry stuff out and about at the moment which I feel means he's getting better on the show, the few times he can make it at the moment (since he's the only one with a normal job).

CVagts posted:This was several years ago, but back in like 2007 or so, TNA PPVs had fallen to about 20k buys, and Bryan commented on a B&V episode that their free episode had about 10k listens. I can't even begin to conjecture how that would have grown in the five years since, but there's a starting point I guess. I think Genesis did around 10K buys this year. I can tell you that Smart Wrestling Fan, which does pretty well but I assume is less popular than the podcasts mentioned more frequently in here, certainly beats that.

We just put up a new feature on Smart Wrestling Fan Extra that'll be up on the normal feed in the coming days - a Fantasy Federation Draft, where all of the hosts pick their own dream 30-person roster (20 men, 6 women, 2 announcers, 2 wildcards) and eventually make their own WrestleMania card from these rosters. I'd love to get people's thoughts on it if they get a chance to listen to it.

Mr. Carlisle posted:A five hour fantasy booking podcast sounds rough to be honest. The draft is two hours, the fantasy booking of the card is a separate thing. But OK.

PaybackJack posted:Especially from people who aren't professionals. I could barely sit through Cornette rebooking the invasion and that was like 2-3 hours. Well, again, it's not so much fantasy booking as who we think are the most valuable properties in wrestling. I've heard only super positive things so far from people who listened to it. But fair enough!

Mr. Carlisle posted:I wasn't trying to write it off without having listened to it I just know the shows of yours that I tried listening to in the past were like five hours long each time. Are they still that long? That's mainly why I made that comment. Every now and then, yeah, depending on whether there are PPVs to review or whatever. A normal show is about 3:30. I know, it's stupidly long, but some people love having heaps of stuff to listen to during the week (or so they tell us). People who want a more condensed version, understandably, are put off. But we try and read every (non-really dumb) email that we get, because if people are making the effort, we like to say thanks. Of course then the other co-hosts say I hate the listeners when I try to summarise emails like "I watched Raw, it was good, what were your thoughts on Brock Lesnar's return" as if we weren't going to cover that. The specific Fantasy Draft thing is just under 2 hours long, and people seem to love it, so if people are willing to give us a chance maybe see if that can get you interested in what we have to say week-to-week.
