I haven't followed the Iran deal too closely but is the US genuinely not holding up their end or is that hardliner propaganda?

Looking on syriancivilwarmap.com, any idea what the rationale behind the recent Daesh offensive near Al-Ra'i is? Are they just picking someone they can beat up?

Al Saqr, why do you think the FSA and their Turkish supporters are rushing to the aid of Aleppo? The only support for that belief has been statements by individual rebels that they want to relieve the siege. Meanwhile, there's been no indication of negotiations between the FSA and YPG, every encounter between Turkish-backed rebels and Kurds has been through gunfire and artillery shells, and there's no reason to believe that Recep "gently caress Kurds" Erdogan is going to take action that goes against Russian interests.

SDF just announced the beginning of the operation to take back Raqqa.

Gonna laugh real loving hard if all the postering and announcements about the planned assault on Mosul was a honeypot to lure Daesh forces away from Raqqa.

ISF are literally inside Mosul city already within two weeks. The south is being taken steadily, and the eastern front is taken. It's over for Mosul, even if it takes some time to take Western suburbs of the city, the place is done for, and the offensive has the 'hearts and minds' already won. Shia Hashd have already started working towards Telafar to cut off the western route, and obvious Sinjar is taken. So I have no idea what you mean by this postering, hah. Raqqa is simply perfectly timed to take political and military gain off the momentum of the Mosul offensive thus far.

"Posturing" wasn't quite the right word. I have no doubt that the Iraqis and Coalition forces intended to take Mosul. I'm referring more to how anti-ISIS forces spent a fair amount of time talking about how they were planning the assault and staging for it and it was easy to accurately estimate when the attack would come. And then out of nowhere, after Mosul has been isolated and there's no way for Daesh forces to withdraw, the Kurds say "Hey, we're attacking Raqqa, bombing begins in 5 minutes."

Its just a touch amusing to me.

syriancivilwarmap.com has FSA forces in the outskirts of Al-Bab. So all three of Daesh's major cities are either under attack or shortly will be. :toot:

Can't wait for President Trump to take credit for defeating them. :negative:

Any hope of continuing the relations thaw went out the window as soon as Trump was elected. Mattis is also an Iran hawk, so there's pretty much even odds on us bombing Tehran at some point within the next 4 years.

Turns out there's a reason he SDF is continuing to move so fast in Tabqa, and it's not just the low number of ISIS soldiers:
https://www.reddit.com/r/syriancivilwar/comments/68ezar/syrian_democratic_forces_almost_fully_captured/

ISIS couldn't mine Tabqa, thus the SDF doesn't have to spend weeks doing the suckiest job on earth, de-mining all of the buildings and roads.

I wonder if this is because the attack on Tabqa was a surprise. Daesh was anticipating the SDF to have to force a Euphrates crossing somewhere and thought they'd have more time to prepare the city's defenses.

It would seem that it was Peshmerga which fired the first shots. Now, is this part of the Iraqi Civil War or is this Iraqi Civil War 2.0?

Future historians will just term this the Forever War as it will likely still be raging in some form when they write their books.
