Thanks all :) I have missed posting at least a few album covers from some lesser-known bands in here. I'm kinda annoyed because there are two covers which bands have paid me for and I've finished, but it's taken like 2 years for them to finish their albums. I mean, I got paid and all but I still like to see it on the release.

This album actually did get released though. I did a cool logo for them (seen here) but they decided to use their old logo, so again. Whatever. Band from Italy. Nice dudes.

i'll never forget how hyped our drummer got for this riff when me and the guitar player started jamming on it and he thought we came up with it. the look on his face when he told him it was already a Sleep song was priceless

Oh man, I'm not entirely sure. It did take a while -- most of those dense ones are like 22" x 22" and scaled down when done. It took me at least a few months from concept to pencil to ink to color. I have a regular full time job of course so I just have to find the time to work on art where I can.

I thought the HoF video was cool, evidently the director makes his own stuff or uses stuff he has access to, collages and touches it with AI to make poo poo real weird

it worked

the studio video kicks rear end too, i love watching coady willis play drums

edit: i felt the video was very surrounded by thieves/de vermis/death is this communion-esque in the imagery
especially the old man's gaze at the lovecraft monster like the cover of de vermis, that shooting flaming rock at the end reminded me of "the candle has burned through the wax that has covered my eyes," and summoning a horrible beast from death is this communion.

I also have Black Harvest and would rank it up there with it. But different vibes: Black Harvest is faster, This Heathen Land feels more conceptual. Both excellent!

I'd love to hear a stoner rock cover of Hey Bulldog. I just think it would go hard. Someone like Fatso Jetson would nail it.

people that can do this are very talented but to me it always feels uncanny valley. always smacks of a well trained musician listening to a few songs, picking up the tent-pole rules of the genre, then hitting record and uploading.

I mean part of that is a symptom of the social media content grind but I've met plenty of people with that ability that dont do anything on social media and the problem is the same.

I think in general when I see these multi-instrumentalist people do a cover like this it lacks the soul/feel of a band doing the same thing. the band has developed a sound and style that they can apply to the song to make it their own (which IMO is what makes a 'good' cover,) whereas this is just one guy who may or may not play doom all the time, so while he gets the tent-pole stuff like using the right scale/chords and tone he doesnt play with the feel/style of doom metal as much? i am not and will not be checking out his channel to determine that.

this is a good example. Most of us know this bands actual sound and you can tell that it is this band doing the source material just on the guitar tone and vocal styling https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QBdBpR5aFvE

being extremely critical of internet song covers is my passion i guess.

this is a really cogent explanation for why these song covers have always bothered me
