[cross posted from the Metal thread, but] Some pseudonymous idiots are recording a very stupid new stoner metal podcast called Fried Lightning - https://soundcloud.com/user-758985205/sets/podcast. So far, there are episodes on Dopesmoker, Master of Reality, and Weedeater's God Luck and Good Speed, with future episodes on stuff like St. Vitus, High on Fire, The Sword, etc..

This stoner/doom metal podcast - https://soundcloud.com/user-758985205/sets/podcast - is going to start doing a segment where they talk about listener-submitted bands (probably on Dope or Nope, if you've heard the show). Where (else) should "they" call for submissions? The plan was to post it in this thread, the Metal thread, and maybe the Doom Metal subreddit. Feel free to lmk other places to post it. But yeah - feel free to drop a link to your stoner/doom band, and maybe two stoned idiots will talk about it on a dumb podcast.

Eat The Rich posted:Sleep was super good. Al Cisneros is too cool. Bell Witch was great too. Saw this show in LA - completely agree. I've really been enjoying Mirror Reaper, and I liked it even more live. Great vibes - and it's a brave thing to perform to a typical metal show audience, since it's SO loving SLOW. I thought it was super hilarious when ppl would yell enthusiastically during the quiet parts.

New Fried Lightning episode is a 20 years of High on Fire retrospective, perfectly timed so that it was recorded before The Sciences was announced/came out and before we have a release date for the new HoF. https://soundcloud.com/user-758985205/fried-lightning-podcast-ep-8-earth-the-bees-made-honey-in-the-lions-skull The world's dumbest podcast celebrates 10 yrs of the only doom album that will ever feature Bill Frisell. I also hear they're releasing an episode on the new Bon Gripper next, and that they want ppl to submit listener bands for their Dope or Nope segment at friedlightningpod at gmail

Ingmar terdman posted:"Chats with Lemmy's ghost" is refreshingly straightforward after the last couple concepts Yeah - there's no way this doesn't come back around some some deep reptile/Biblical/time-traveling conspiracies. Also, new ep of Fried Lightning https://soundcloud.com/user-758985205/fried-lightning-podcast-ep-9-bongripper-terminal - still the world's dumbest podcast after all these months. A few weeks late, but they cover Terminal by Bongripper. Upcoming eps look to be about Enslaved, Thou, and probably that new High on Fire when it comes out. You can't rate it 4.20 on iTunes, but that's pretty close to 5 https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/fried-lightning/id1374747745?mt=2

Shakenbaker posted:I know that the Encyclopedia Metallum says they're not metal but holy poo poo Royal Thunder pretty goddamned good live. Good God - I'm extremely not a fan of EM-type gatekeeping on poo poo like this. There are some serious, crazy logic loops you can create when defining music based on arbitrary, historically based genre hallmarks. Perfectly, it reminds me of a rant by one of the hosts of Fried Lightning on this week's episode (which is also about Dopethrone, excellently): https://soundcloud.com/user-758985205/podcast-ep-11-electric-wizard-dopethrone https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/fried-lightning/id1374747745?mt=2 It seems like they are getting rid of the stupid voice modulation poo poo after some complaints by fans. I kind of like it, but I had a friend tell me it makes the podcast literally unlistenable, so different strokes I guess oh wait also THIS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1XZnG8-fgc8

Kvlt! posted:Hey firebad do u by any chance enjoy the podcast "fried lightning"? Yeah - I was wondering how long it would take to get a response like this. Obviously, I do, and also probably obviously, the dudes who make it are friends that I'd like to help, because they appear to be SUPER lovely at publicizing the thing they make. If folks here think my constant advocacy is annoying, I can totally stop, they just seem to frequently talk about poo poo relevant to this thread. Henchman of Santa posted:EM is dumb about a lot of poo poo but Royal Thunder never really sounded like a metal band to me. Its not nearly as weird as keeping Between the Buried and Me or Rosetta out. Also, yeah - I don't think this particular case is as relevant as the ones you mentioned, and I'm probably just a little too aggressively anti-gatekeeping, in general.

Quantum of Phallus posted:I used to love BTBAM, they disappeared up their own asses after The Great Misdirect. Colors and their S/T album are classics IMO It took me so long to check out Colors, because (speaking of BS anti-metalcore drama) a good buddy worked on The Silent Circus back in the day. He showed me their music videos in like 2004, and I thought "wow - this is the stupidest, scene-iest band that's ever existed. gently caress them." That was my image of them until a few yrs ago, when some friends with good taste were raving about Colors, and I wondered how they could possibly like an album by an ancient scene-core band. Turns out Colors rules
