The Saddest Robot posted:I think it mainly has to do with the state of the comic industry when he got started. His art looked drat good compared to a lot of the comics being put out at that time. I think he upped the bar quite a bit in the early 90's, his style was pretty well proportioned, had strong, muscular men and women with boobs and a good sense of composition, negative areas, etc. His artwork was very consistent too which was a pretty big thing, I recall that a lot of the comic books I read had art that was all over the place.

Shameless posted:It often goes unnoticed but despite being a much better artist than Liefeld, Mignola also seems to have issues with feet. Mignola has a lot of issues he has stated that he hates drawing technically stuff like cars for example. He really strikes me as a kinda lazy artist who doesn't seem like he wants to develop himself.

mind the walrus posted:That was especially true during the "SWAMP THING IN DEEP SPACE" arc that was going on during this issue these pages are posted from. There's one issue where Swamp Thing is essentially raped by a weird techno-organic thing in space because they're somewhat biologically compatible to reproduce, and the art looks gorgeously trippy and abstract. One of the highlights both artwise and storywise is the sex scene between Abby and the Swamp Thing: But I think that Swamp Thing in space is the weakest part of series (especially the Adam Strange story) because Alan Moore was preoccupied whith writing other stuff (like Watchmen) and it shows. Big Bad Voodoo Lou posted:But people often forget Sam Kieth penciled the first few issues of Gaiman's Sandman, and it always looked really sloppy and rushed. Some of that may have been the coloring, but Sandman got a lot better when Mike Dringenberg took over the pencil art, and I'll be the first one to admit Kieth's work on Maxx, Marvel Comics Presents, and even those Batman covers I personally don't like is a lot better than his Sandman art. The fact that Keith hated working on Sandman might explain that.
