This is almost certainly a network question more than a Usenet question, but I'm hoping that there's an easy and obvious solution. Linksys Wireless N router (E2500) Wireless N USB adapter (2.4 GHz) on a desktop running SABnzbd (Windows 7) Using astraweb, 12 connections I'm getting slightly faster downloads compared to my old Linksys WRT54G, but downloads seem to completely overwhelm any other internet traffic. I can't get to Google -- nothing but DNS errors. I don't think I used any prioritizing settings with my older router; can anyone think of any way to resolve this?

Wow, thanks everyone. The router is new, but not easily returnable. I will try QoS (which I do think was activated on the old router) and scheduling before looking into return options.

I sometimes wonder if anyone at Microsoft actually uses UAC. I turned it off for administrator accounts and have all my Usenet programs built into Task Scheduler in the event of an overnight Windows Update or something. For those interested, the problem that I had where SABnzbd overrode all other internet access doesn't seem to occur if I speedlimit downloads to 1.2 MB/s. Also, it only seems to happen with SABnzbd: Bittorrent can download at 1.7 MB/s+ without blocking web access. I've set SAB's settings to pause or cap download speeds during high-demand periods, and haven't had a problem since.

Could someone tell me where the script menu is in SABnzbd or, alternatively, how I can switch the theme? Sabnzbd isn't recognizing my sabtosickbeard. Someone has created a Sickbeard/Couch Potato type program for searching Usenet for music. http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?t=103688 https://github.com/rembo10/headphones It's a little inelegant right now. Like Sickbeard, you basically "subscribe" to an artist, then the program seems to scrape Musicbrainz for all of the artist's official releases. It can also "sync" with your library to determine what songs in a discography you already have.  I've seen people ask for something like this before, and I figure that the coder population here might be interested in taking a crack at helping this guy out. EDIT: It's parsing through my library now. I feel that the "formal" way that it's organizing certain artists is not going to work well if I try to search for songs or albums by the artist later (scene conventions vs. musicbrain naming conventions). Also, I'm deathly afraid of what's going to happen when this scraper hits "Various Artists" EDIT: It appears to read the "Artist" tag, rather than the "Album Artist" tag. Still, this is definitely a "set it up, walk away for a few hours" situation. EDIT: The first two images made me a little uncomfortable because they were kinda explicit. So, fourteen hours or so later, I would say DO NOT let Headphones scan your hard drive. It will pull up a full discography and subscribe to every single artist it finds. It doesn't matter if you don't particularly want stuff by the artist, or if you only have one song by the artist. If you delete an artist, it will restore the information without asking. If you don't have it scan your library, however, it seems to be a pretty cool way to simplify searching for specific pieces of music. The "auto-seek" only works for pending releases -- there's no "backlog," though you can always search individual pieces within a catalog.

I had written a while ago about having trouble using the web while Usenet was downloading. Specifically, I was unable to connect to any other pages while SABnzbd was All this talk about how connections actually work got me thinking. I currently run 8 connections through an Astraweb server, but my maximum network speed is only about 1.6-1.7 MB/s. I went into the server settings and dropped to 2 connections. Now, it appears that I'm getting my normal rates (maybe 1.4-1.5 MB/s), and the rest of the internet works. Does it make sense that the redundant connections would prevent me from accessing other websites, or is this just a "it works, don't worry about it" situation. vvvvv plausible, but I would honestly be surprised. It's relatively new, and a reliable brand. My speeds are about the same with this new configuration, and I don't have the same issues with bittorrent (though those speeds aren't generally as high). Each indexer searches a set list of groups. If you use binsearch, for example, you can select if you want to search common news groups or specific ones. I don't think it would be feasible for anyone to facilitate an alt.binaries.xxx.* search. It would be too overwhelming. Edit: xxx meaning "whatever," not porn necessarily.

Welp. Now I can't connect to Astraweb on the East Coast. SABnzbd's "Test Server" option is just spinning, and the download is listed as "waiting". Not sure why it hasn't just switched to my blocknews backup (which I can connect to). EDIT: Seems to have resolved. Not sure what the hiccup was, but I'll leave this up since it seems to corroborate what someone else was saying before. Other than this, I've had 0 problems with Astraweb, and don't even mind that I'm paying a couple dollars more a month (kept the $11 Kleverig special, though I think that $9/mo is the new standard pricing for unlimited accounts). EDIT: Sorry, don't mean to give a real-time account of my experience. Speed's dropped to 1 K/s, and now the whole thing's shut down again. I'll wait until things are actually resolved before I post again. EDIT: Next day. Switched the port back from 443 to 563 (had switched to 443 after experiencing what I thought was throttling last week). Download jumped back, but I was only grabbing one file so I can't say it's "fixed." What's the new hotness when it comes to unlimited downloads? Searched back five or six pages and wasn't able to find an answer, and the Sickbeard forums don't seem to be particularly helpful on this one. I had Sickbeard running from an external hard drive (G:), but removed the drive after it failed. Everything is now working off of C:, but when I try to add new shows, it keeps defaulting back to the old G: directory. I can change it, but the setting resets every time I restart my computer. Everything in settings seems to default to the C: drive, so I can't figure out why the configuration settings don't persist. \/\/\/\/\/ I know that much. EDIT: Issue resolved. Didn't realize pyopenssl could come from different providers, and was trying to install a 32-bit version to 64-bit version of python.

Having a very odd problem, but not sure if it's sabnzbd or my ipad. When I access sabnzdb from my ipad (localhost:8080), it's only showing a random freeze frame from a week or two ago. It's fine at my desktop, but it's the strangest thing.
