Yeah, I get the impression the trick, such as it was was actually for Pietro's benefit to stop him from exposing his daughter to the mists (since they couldn't just tell him to gently caress off because blah blah blah Inhuman patriarchy, since Crystal didn't want it either). and he's covering it up by saying it was actually just a prank on Ben. Heck,, Madrox says that Pietro would have been fooled if someone had done the same thing to him, and he was there.

Besides, Lockjaw and the Pet Avengers proves he is sentient, anyway.

Actually thinking about my comment re: convection , the moment right before that probably counts for this thread.

For context, this was during the Kyle/Yost X-Force run, where the team are trying to destroy a sample of the Legacy virus that a bunch of anti-mutant terrorists have gotten their hands on in a T2-esque steel mill, only for X-23 to get injected with the full sample. The rest of the team aren't able to get to her as she moves off, except for Elixir, who basically got drafted to be team medic & isn't down with killing people at all.

She's OK, she manages to avoid the metal but gets set on fire when she bounces off the side of the tank. Luckily she's got her healing factor back by that point & heals. It's just too bad she never saved him back.

See, that just seems like a good time to do the Miles Morales thing and have a new character take up the old hero's mantle. There's a reason you don't see a lot of Professional athletes stick on into their 40s and 50s, and superheroics seems, if anything, like it'd put even more of a strain on your body. Just come up with an origin story for the new guy, have the old hero mentor them for a while, then retire from full time heroics to enjoy a quieter professional life and raising a family. Have them occasionally drop in to bail the newbie out of a deathtrap, or give them advice on a case. Maybe do a temporary team up for some big threat.

That was basically how they handled Peter Parker in Spider-Girl - he retired from superheroics to raise hs family and kind of reluctantly mentored his daughter (because really, what parent would be happy their teen daughter is dressing up and fighting supervillains?). Granted, he had retired before her origin, but it shows it can be done.

I always liked how in the DCAU, Bats' personal connection to Harvey always colors his interactions with him, and how he never gives up on him.

Also, I don't have it, but I remember reading this short thing in a collection around the time the Face the Face arc was going where they did a comic in the style of the Gotham Adventures (which was no longer printing) where Harvey gets an operation to fix his face after successful mental counseling. It doesn't work. It can't work, and it's really tragic. It was done in black and white which added a classiness to it. I want to say Dini himself wrote it.

I know there was at least one story where the Joker nudged a Harvey that was on the edge of a genuine recovery back over the edge, just because it was Tuesday.

This is good.

One of my favorite JJJ moments is some guy representing a villain (can't remember if its Fisk or Osborn) tries to come in and and intimidate him into killing a story, and Jonah tells him to kick rocks.

Jonah might have somewhat distorted ethics and principles, but he's at his best when they have him stand his ground.

He did the same thing when Bastion tried to get him on board with Operation Zero Tolerance, as I recall.

Also he went after X-Factor with both barrels for taking advantage of anti-mutant hysteria (and also for failing to capture Spider-Man, but he did state when I think Robbie called him out on it that he would have atacked them in the press anyway, and if they were going after that menace they wouldn't be hassling innocent mutants instead).

There was also the backup story in the issie where Wolverine kills the Hulk, What If The Fantastic Four Had Never Been, where due to the divergences by the end of the story Reed, Sue, and Johnny are depowered, and Peter Parker, Tony Stark, Bruce Banner, and Donald Blake all have their origins negated(and indirectly results in Cap and Namor being left in their limbo states for the time being)

Always thought that this was one of the most interesting What If stories, cause now we have an early Silver Age Marvel Universe with only the Thing, Daredevil, Ant-Man & Wasp, Doctor Strange, and the X-Men as its initial wave of heroes

I guess maybe they all get eaten by Galactus, unless the Watcher lays down his life like he did in What If? The Avengers Fought Galactus (where the FF died in their flight).

Honestly as much as people poo poo on the Spider-Man 9/11 issue (or to be more precise, that one page), it's worth remembering that JMS & Marvel are based in New York, so it's more he was working through his own feelings. That is way overused for What If stories, I'll just assume they found some way to beat or deter Galactus

I guess Uatu could have sacrificed himself, or maybe Jean becomes Phoenix early (which could be its own What If?)

Heck, you could also roll out some of the characters who were retconned. So maybe Blue Marvel comes out of retirement, Jessica Jones came out of her coma right when Galactus showed up.

Maybe Professor X telepathically calls everyone in to save the planet like he did in that What If? where Rick Jones dies during the Kree-Skrull war.
