Once I get the Home Phone Connect and have had it for a while I will post a review. Also, it might be helpful to include a link to the old thread if someone wants to go over it (if I missed said link, I apologize). The last thread was a great resource, thanks for doing this!

Anyone have any experience or opinion on the Motorola Droid Pro? My wife wants a droid with a keyboard that is not too huge, and that seems like an option.

Thanks ExcessBLarg! and dominator, she wants a smaller phone with a physical keyboard, so I will have to drag her in and have her try some out. She doesn't like swype too much - I have that on mine.

ExcessBLarg! posted:Swype is an interesting one. I personally love it, although mostly for reasons that have less to do with "Swyping." In short, even its biggest fans admit that Swype doesn't work well in all circumstances, and a lot of folks just outright hate it. I'd show her the SwiftKey X Beta and download the Gingerbread Keyboard on your phone (if you're still on Froyo), since those cover the gamut of alternatives. I had not thought of trying out other kb software, and I will do so. Thanks again man!

Is there a 4G phone out now that compares to the Incredible? That is what I have now and I might be willing to give it to the wife if I can get a similar handset that does 4G.

So, thank you thread. I upgraded my wife to a certified refurbished white iPhone for for $149 (getting in on the grandfathered unlimited data plan for her) and added the Friends and Family for free just by asking.

Mighty Horse posted:Bailing on my Nexus today. I never really liked it to be honest. I find the stock ICS kinda, meh. And there aren't enough places for me to use google wallet to care about NFC at this point. This makes me a little hesitant to get a Nexus. We have pretty decent LTE here from what I understand, and I have excellent wifi at home and at work, so my DI doesn't usually run out of battery until the end of the day. I have had the low disk space issues for a while, which was part of the reason I was getting ready to upgrade. I suppose I could try a CM7 or 9 ROM to see if that helps out for a while.

Costco has the GNex for $219 with their free accessory kit and a mail in rebate for a free extended battery. Nice phone so far!

Doctor rear end in a top hat posted:Decided to just get a drat Nexus. I called the store and they have them in stock. I was just going to drive up there and buy one, but I figured I'd ask you guys if there's anything I can do to get it cheaper or get free stuff like an extended battery. I got mine at Costco for $220 and they have a mail in rebate for a free extended battery/cover. Cheapest I saw.

Penguissimo posted:If you're anywhere near a Costco, you might want to check them out too. I believe they charge around the same amount as Amazon, but they usually have a deal going where you get some free accessories too (including an extended battery if I remember correctly?). Only catch it that they won't see the early upgrade either, but it sounds like you don't particularly mind waiting. I got my GNex for $219 with a mail in rebate for a free extended battery, so yeah. Do that. It rules.

Rooted and installed 4.0.4 tonight, the 4G seems a little easier to connect to now and I no longer have to do stupid disables/re-enables when transitioning from 3G to 4G and back. Thanks for the advice!

The in-store support from Apple Stores is top notch and their Applecare+ warranty is a solid deal. She'll also like the accessories selection. This is really good advice. I got my wife an iPhone, and as a casual user she loves it. The Camera, Facebook, Texting, Calling and Battery Life are all good.

When I powered my GNex on this morning, it displayed that Android was updating. However, I am running the older leaked 4.0.4 and have been for a while. Did I just miss out on the official update?

I went back to stock and flashed the leaked 4.0.4 OTA, and it still seems to suck rear end when transitioning from LTE to 3G and back again. If I leave it on CDMA only my extended battery lasts all day, on hybrid it seems to get warm to the touch and runs down quickly. I am starting to wonder if this is one of the hardware issues others have seen or if it is just that LTE in the Portland, OR area sucks.

yamdankee posted:The 'official' IMM76K is what you're using? I've been tempted to do that myself because of all the fixes and battery life drastically improving. Yup, and it has not done a lot for me so far. I am going to test it this week and see if it was just me running around over the weekend, I should be in a decent area when at work. I dropped my first call in forever after I flashed this weekend, so I am not overly optimistic.

Unless its fighting just to maintain a tower signal while in LTE mode, I can't imagine a situation where having it in that mode would cause excessive drain without switching back off of wifi.
