What's the best deal for insurance on say the new iPhone? Going through Asurion or just getting AppleCare?

Applecare+ is a hundred bucks for two years of Apple coverage, as opposed to the ten buck a month plan ($240 for two years) that Verizon has. Asurion costs something like 12 dollars a month. I'm not sure what the other carriers offer.

I'll take Apple over any other option.

Android phones get replaced every 2-6m. Dont dwell on wondering if x phone is going to have something better come out in a few months, cause it always will.

That is true, but I would make an exception for any new Nexus branded phone. These models might as well be the reference model for any Android phone that comes after and have exceptionally good support and updates for Android devices.

If you think that Google is going to let Motorola be for any longer than a couple years, you are fooling yourself. Once they clear the rigorous initial regulatory period, the screws are going to tighten. Google makes a lot of money, but has no reason to let Motorola bleed cash on their own.

What's the current cheapest way to upgrade to a Nexus right now?

Reason Im asking is my girl is upgrading her phone, she's not the most tech savvy so it wont be rooted. I'm on AT&T.

Is the Nexus the best for her? Thoughts on the RAZR, Droid 4 which seem to be the most comparable?

What is her previous phone?

Is there any reason why the iPhone 4S is off the table? That is the phone I recommend to my relatives and I have minimal troubleshooting requests as a result.

I mean, of course, steer family and loved ones away from crap phones and shoddy hardware, but let them make a choice they are comfortable with. Take her to a Verizon store and let her fiddle with the phones for a while.

Also, if she makes the choice herself, there is a greater chance she will be satisfied with the phone over the life of the contract.

I am seriously considering pre-ordering the iphone 5C. But I have a question about the warranty plans. Is this something I should get? If something does go wrong with the phone and I do have the warranty, is it a simple and easy process to get a new phone? As in, do they dick you around?

This would all be done through the Verizon website. It would be: Total Mobile Protection - iPhone
(Safeguard devices from loss, theft, damage and mechanical defects after the manufacturer's warranty has expired; Get personalized support from a Tech Coach and the ability to protect your device from viruses and other threats. (Total Mobile Protection is bundled product; individual products available separately)10.00/mo or Total Equipment Coverage (WPP + Extended Warranty), Advanced Devices(Replacement for loss, theft, damage and defects after the manufacturer's warranty expires) 9.99/mo

Is one better than the other? I mean, it's a penny difference :/

If you live anywhere close to an Apple store, I would recommend getting Apple Care. It is 100 dollars upfront, but covers all small repairs and two phone replacements (which cost fifty dollars).

No matter what happens to the phone, you'll never be without your phone for more than a day.

I bought it for my 4s and got one refurb and then had the speakers go, which would have cost 59 dollars out of pocket, but was covered by the program. The replacement took less than a hour.

You can get AppleCare at any time 30 days after you get your phone it you bring it with you to an Apple Store for a brief inspection.

I'm helping a coworker buy his first smartphone. He's on Verizon right now with an ancient flip phone.

He's looking to spend around $100 for a phone, hooked into a 2 year contract with a minimal data plan (to start with). I suggested the S3, since I have one and like it. But I'm also out of the loop on phones. Is there a better choice (Android or iOS) for that price range? He has no bias toward OS.

I would recommend a phone on the platform you currently have, since you are probably going to be fielding questions from him for a long time. The S3 is as good as any 100 dollar android phone.

It looks like Verizon is offering $200 for my iPhone 4S 16GB from Sprint if I trade in. My phone is in pretty much perfect condition except for a loose charging port. Any thoughts if I can get the full $200 (or close to it) for trade in value?

Gazelle isn't even offering close to that. AT&T iPhones have the best resale value and Verizon ones are only ok, so I'm guessing you should go for it.

Has anyone here ordered the iPhone 5s at full price to keep their unlimited plan (unlimited plan originated from when I had a Blackberry a long time ago but have since been using an iPhone 4)? I'm trying to order it on Verizon's page on the month to month option so I'm paying full price. When I get to the plan detail page during the ordering process it shows my minutes, text and data options but when I proceed to the next checkout page it doesn't show my calling plan in the plan details. I'm afraid if I order it this way Verizon will gently caress me over and force me into a tiered plan if I try to make any changes to the calling plan portion.

What is stopping you from ordering it from Apple or buying it in a retail store? If you don't have a 4G sim, you can buy one from a Verizon store and activate it there.

Buy one from the online store and let the mail system take the phone to you, or just use the store pickup option:

It might just be the radio chip on the device. 2011 LTE radios are so flaky and power hungry compared to newer versions.

Just make sure you check to make sure it is activated in iOS settings. I restored my 6s from my old 5s and it it retained the data only setting.
